Glenn Close is an amazingly game performer, at home in every genre. As a record holder of prestigious nominations, Ms. Close’s wave of acclaim has crested throughout her career with no sign of breaking any time soon. Starting with her in the adaptation of John Irving’s novel, The World According to Garp, her most memorable roles have been taken from literature, biopics, or stage plays. Film roles such as HamletDangerous Liaisons, The Lion in Winter, and Serving in Silence are among these.

On the other hand, her comedic have been mostly featured ones or cameos. But in with these she tends to evoke more layers from her characters than those suggested on the page. Robust and chilling roles like the peerless rich-bitch Cruella DeVil (101 Dalmatians) or the frightfully perky Claire Wellington (The Stepford Wives) are good examples. She never fails to embody that persona her own and convey this to the audience. There is every reason to believe she will breathe life into her character with her particular delightful blend of subtlety and gusto.

With the plot of Back in Action under wraps, it’s fun to speculate using the information available.  Seth Gordon’s newest film has a lot in common with 2022 romantic comedy, The Lost City, for which he wrote the screen story and served as producer. From its description it sounds similar to Romancing the Stone, but apparently nowhere near a knock-off. It did well with both the critics and the box office, with plenty of praise from the audience, judging by the on-line responses. It’s a fair guess that Back in Action might bolster that kind of high concept energy.

That said, perhaps the best clue is the team of stunt performers assembled so far, nineteen in all. In this regard this movie represents a full sphere of the ‘action’ genre. Standouts among these professionals are Vlad Rimburg (Gangs of London) as Fight Coordinator, assisted by Laurent Buson (The Witcher) and Harley Durst (No Time to Die).

Interestingly, Cameron Diaz (The Mask, Vanilla Sky) has been coaxed out of retirement to take on a role. With Jamie Foxx (Ray) and Kyle Chandler (Argo, Manchester by the Sea) also on board, there must be something mighty enticing about Back in Action. With Back in Action currently filming (in Atlanta, apparently), the cast is one dynamo of a quartet.

Seth Gordon has teamed up with comedy writer Brendan O’Brien (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising). Gordon is also producing with Beau Bauman (Cry Wolf, Central Intelligence). Back in Action will be available on Netflix, but no release date has yet been announced.
