Eddie Murphy Slated to Return in Beverly Hills Cop 4

Eddie Murphy is going to be returning to movies playing his beloved character Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop 4 for Netflix.

In 1984, Eddie Murphy was a superstar in his own right appearing in the box-office mega hit Beverly Hills Cop. After a successful sequel, this series seemed poised for greatness. Then, in 1994, the third film in the franchise crashed and burned at the box-office and only garnered a measly “B” CinemaScore grade from audiences. Flash forward to 2021 and audiences seem ready to forgive Murphy for the third film as they eagerly await his return to playing the beloved character in the franchise who is a Detroit cop named Axel Foley. In Beverly Hills Cop 4 which will debut on Netflix, Murphy will reprise one of the biggest roles of his career.

It was recently made known through California’s Film & TV tax credit program that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be a California-based production. It’s a one shot deal for Paramount Pictures and Netflix to join forces and will shoot for 58 days, partly in San Bernardino.

Directing the new Beverly Hills Cop film will be action film geniuses Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah who just last year stunned the movie-going public with their box-office sensation Bad Boys For Life which audiences loved. According to sources, the filmmakers had been slated to direct this upcoming Eddie Murphy picture even before the 2020 smash.

Eddie Murphy just recently starred in Coming 2 America which did quite well as a streaming event film on Amazon earlier this year. That film came some 33 years after the original and audiences absolutely loved seeing Murphy return to his role of Akeem which was one of the most successful parts of his distinguished career. That’s not to mention the other characters Murphy played in those films which audiences also enjoyed!

Eddie Murphy is an Academy Award nominated actor who received the nod for his great turn in the 2006 film Dreamgirls. He also received much acclaim for his work in the Netflix film Dolemite is My Name. Many believe Murphy was snubbed for an Oscar nod for his difficult role in that picture which Murphy handled superbly. Eddie Murphy is also a favorite of family film audiences who adored his voice-over work playing the donkey in the animated Shrek films.

While the script for Beverly Hills Cop 4 is still in development, it remains uncertain whether or not any of Murphy’s co-stars from the previous pictures will be on board the new sequel as well. More will be revealed as the film moves further in its development.
