BONES AND ALL (2022): Timothée Chalamet Enters the Race for Best Actor With His Work in New Film

Timothée Chalamet Will Be Campaigned for Best Lead Actor

Hollywood movie star, Timothée Chalamet, will be running as a potential candidate for the Best Actor Oscar for his new film, Bones and All.

Timothée Chalamet was once positioned as a strong candidate for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination for his work in Bones and All. Now, however, it has been revealed that the film’s studio, MGM/UA, will be campaigning for him for awards consideration as the best leading actor in the film.

Bones and All is being marketed as a cannibal romance movie. That genre doesn’t scream out, “Academy Awards!” but acclaimed actor Chalamet is no stranger to being honored for original, thought-provoking films. For 2017’s deep drama, Call Me by Your Name, the young actor received a Best Actor Oscar nod. It could happen all over again for Chalamet’s work in Bones and All.

Luca Guadagnino (who directed both Call Me by Your Name and Bones and All)’s upcoming movie, which features Chalamet in a heavy role, is positioned as a top awards contender since it not only features Chalamet but it also stars acclaimed British actor Mark Rylance who has been quite prevalent this year, appearing in movies like The Outfit and The Phantom of the Open. Early word is that Rylance’s strongest performance of the year is in Bones and All which would make Chalamet’s inclusion in the Best Supporting Actor category a conflict of interest since Rylance could be the stronger candidate for that particular category.

Chalamet will be left to fend off the likes of Austin Butler (Elvis), Brendan Fraser (The Whale) and Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) whose inclusion in the category are all almost guaranteed. But, Chalamet is always phenomenal so he could, indeed, secure a nod if his latest movie gets the positive reviews and support it needs.

Meanwhile, MGM/UA revealed another one of its films, Sarah Polley’s Women Talking, will be campaigning its star, Rooney Mara, in the lead Actress category while the other stars of that film will all by vying for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod. Jessie Buckley, Claire Foy, Judith Ivey, Sheila McCarthy, Michelle McLeod, Kate Hallett and more of that picture’s cast will all be competing for coveted spots in the Best Supporting Actress category.

While Timothée Chalamet is one of the best young actors working today, it will take some major support from his peers to be included in one of the most competitive Best Actor categories in years. However, don’t rule the heartthrob out of the race at this particular point in time. He may just sneak into the Best Actor race and secure a spot as a candidate to contend with. Bones and All opens November 18th.
