Details of Paul Thomas Anderson’s New Film Still Under Wraps

Oscar-nominated film-making genius Paul Thomas Anderson has a new film coming out in November but details are still being kept strictly confidential by those involved.

All the great director Paul Thomas Anderson has to do is announce he has a new film coming out and the experts automatically declare it a front runner for Oscar nominations. However, just a few months before the film’s scheduled release date, no footage from the film has been shown. We don’t even know the film’s actual title! But, we do know the film has a terrific cast which includes the great Bradley Cooper, Cooper Hoffman, Skyler Gisondo, Benny Safdie and Joseph Cross.

At a recent CinemaCon presentation in Vegas by MGM/UA, the film’s studio, mum was the word on Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming picture as the focus was more on the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die. Many people are excited about Anderson’s first film in four years. The last picture we saw from Anderson was the 2017 Oscar-nominated Daniel Day-Lewis masterpiece Phantom Thread.

Paul Thomas Anderson came on to the movie scene with a vengeance when he made the critically acclaimed indie Hard Eight in 1996. His follow-up films Boogie Nights and Magnolia are classified as modern day classics which earned nominations for some of those film’s stars and their scripts as well. When Anderson made the 2007 masterpiece There Will Blood which earned Daniel-Day Lewis his second Best Actor Oscar, the director was automatically crowned a movie-making legend.

This upcoming Anderson movie is about 1970’s Los Angeles and focuses in on a new actor’s friendship with an acclaimed filmmaker. It is supposed to be released in a platform style method with it premiering in select cities on November 26th before expanding nationwide on Christmas. It had completed production as of late last year, according to sources. The movie was previously called Soggy Bottom but many expect a new title for the picture to be unveiled.

The big news about the new Anderson picture besides Bradley Cooper’s involvement in it is the presence of Cooper Hoffman, son of the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was known for his parts in Anderson’s Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love and The Master. All eyes are on Cooper Hoffman’s performance as well as the Oscar-nominated Bradley Cooper who may get nominated again for this new film.

While some of the specifics on Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film are yet to be made clear, this film will certainly be one of the most prestigious offerings this holiday season from the major movie studios. Let’s hope it’s more close to Phantom Thread than Inherent Vice in terms of quality but don’t forget even Inherent Vice, one of Anderson’s lesser films, received a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination!
