Michael B. Jordan Wins Best Actor at the Oscars For His Work In SINNERS

Michael B. Jordan Wins Best Actor at the Oscars For SINNERS

Michael B. Jordan Takes Best Actor for Sinners at the Academy Awards

Michael B. Jordan earned the Oscar for Best Actor at the 98th Annual Academy Awards ceremony this evening.

Michael B. Jordan played dual roles, Smoke and Stack, in the hit movie Sinners which won Best Cinematography (and the first woman cinematographer to ever win the Academy Award) as well as Best Original Screenplay tonight and, now, Jordan is officially an Oscar winner for Best Actor for his terrific work in the aforementioned picture. Jordan won in a “stacked” category that included the likes of Ethan Hawke and other worthy candidates as well. Jessie Buckley earned the Best Actress Academy Award for her dramatic turn in Hamnet. It was ultimately an awards season sweep for Buckley in a year in which the main competition came from Rose Byrne in a little seen masterpiece called If I Had Legs I’d Kick You which seemingly got lost in the shuffle at the box-office as it was barely released.

Paul Thomas Anderson won the Best Director award for his work on the much acclaimed One Battle After Another. Anderson had been nominated many times before and, tonight, he won twice. He won for Best Adapted Screenplay as well as for Best Director. Ryan Coogler at least took the Best Original Screenplay Oscar home tonight for Sinners. Though he lost for directing, Coogler has made a movie that will stand the test of time as one of the most powerful vampire horror movies ever made.

Avatar: Fire and Ash won Best Visual Effects and Sigourney Weaver was on-hand to present that particular award to the winners. Avatar: Fire and Ash was largely left out of the competition otherwise with very few nominations and it was nice to see it earn an accolade it so well-deserved.

Sentimental Value overthrew The Secret Agent to win Best International Film tonight. Sentimental Value was a very prestigious project which had four acting nominations tonight. The Secret Agent was a favorite to win going into the evening, but with all that acting muscle behind Sentimental Value, it ultimately proved to be victorious.

Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman reunited for the 25th Anniversary of Moulin Rouge! as they announced the Best Picture Oscar winner tonight. One Battle After Another ultimately won Best Picture at the Academy Awards as well as five other Oscars in addition to that main award. Once thought to be a front runner, Marty Supreme went home pretty much empty handed tonight. Sinners (which also won Best Original Score) went into the night with the most nominations, but ultimately lost to Paul Thomas Anderson’s heavy-hitter. Conan O’Brien delivered hosting duties quite satisfactorily and is likely to be back as the host of the Oscars again in the future.
