Tracee Ellis Ross Cast Opposite Eddie Murphy in Comedy

Acclaimed actress, Tracee Ellis Ross has joined Amazon Prime Video’s holiday-themed project, Candy Cane Lane.

“Black-ish” star, Tracee Ellis Ross, will be joining Eddie Murphy in the cast of the high-profile upcoming film project from Amazon Prime Video, Candy Cane Lane. Ross is one of the most talented television actresses working today who is also known for her work on the shows, “Girlfriends” and “Grown-ish.” She will further be developing her versatile talents in the forthcoming Murphy feature film.

It is possible that Ross’s most notable film role to date was opposite Dakota Johnson in the fairly good movie from Focus Features, The High Note, from back in 2020 which did well during the pandemic but, for obvious reasons, never had much of a theatrical release. Still, Ross made her presence known in her commanding role in that picture. It is also noted that Ross did voice work for the 2019 movie, Little. In 2007, she appeared in the hit picture, Daddy’s Little Girls as well.

Ross played the hit role of Dr. Rainbow Johnson in “Black-ish” for years starting all the way back in 2014. She received a Golden Globe for playing the part. In The High Note, Ross portrayed Grace Davis, a R&B Singer. It was a perfect role for Ross to strut both her comic and dramatic acting talents.

Eddie Murphy is one of the most popular comic actors of all-time and made many huge box-office hits throughout this career, most notably his early fan favorites, 1983’s Trading Places and 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop. His voice-over work as the donkey in the Shrek movies is, perhaps, his biggest claim to fame, however. Amazon Prime Video has signed Murphy up for a three-picture deal. Murphy is also going to be starring in a new Beverly Hills Cop project for Netflix so he will be flexing his comic muscles for both streaming sites.

While the exact plot of Candy Cane Lane is yet to be revealed, the unstoppable combination of Murphy and Ross should make it a formidable holiday comedy that could yield big ratings. Reginald Hudlin will be directing the picture for Amazon. This movie will play in 240 “countries and territories worldwide” making it a widely distributed project which should prove to be one of Ross’s most widely viewed projects to date.

The pairing of Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross sounds like a dream team made in movie heaven. These are two fine comic talents who have what it takes to keep viewers watching and laughing throughout the holiday season. No exact release date seems to have been chosen yet for the eagerly awaited project.
