THE MONGOOSE: Liam Neeson Will Star in Upcoming Action Picture Which Scored a Nice Deal at Cannes

Liam Neeson In The Land Of Saints And Sinners

Liam Neeson to Play in an Upcoming High-Concept Thriller

Liam Neeson is going to be starring in The Mongoose which Amazon Prime Video just closed a big deal on at the Cannes market.

Liam Neeson is going to be playing a war hero unfairly accused of wrongdoing who is on the run in the upcoming action/thriller called The Mongoose. Mark Vanselow will be helming Neeson’s exciting new project. Neeson could certainly use another Taken-sized hit and Amazon is betting this one could well be the next big Neeson film. In the meantime, the acclaimed actor is trying his hand at a goofy comedy/action reboot film, The Naked Gun.

The new thriller will be going into production in Australia early next year in January 2025. Supporting performers have not all been announced yet for the high-profile Neeson film. The story line will focus on Neeson’s decorated character’s attempt to clear his name as he participates in a wild, “televised” car chase that will take audiences cross-country. While it sounds similar to last year’s action movie, Retribution, The Mongoose could be even more exciting when it goes into production and, especially, when it is finally released by Amazon.

The deal on The Mongoose which was finalized with Amazon Prime Video at the Cannes market was in the $20-25 million range. That’s more than many of Neeson’s recent films have made domestically at the box-office but The Mongoose seems to be a whole new open door for Neeson and this upcoming film could be a throwback to Neeson’s better action hero movie days.

Neeson is one of the most prolific action stars working today and has made different types of movies over the last several years. Most recently, he appeared in a top-notch, under-seen action movie called In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Before that, he starred in the wildly enjoyable Retribution which was met unfairly with unkind reviews.

What makes Liam Neeson such a respected action hero? It’s his unwillingness to let his action pictures sink into predictability. The Mongoose sounds like it has the potential to keep audiences at the edge of their seats throughout. It is uncertain as to whether this new picture will be a big screen production or simply one that will be sent to streaming but streaming is probably the way for Amazon Prime Video to take this one given Neeson’s lukewarm box-office returns of late.

As one waits for The Mongoose, one may enjoy watching Neeson’s previous two major pictures, Retribution and In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Neeson always acts by a particular set of rules in his movies and the latest will showcase Neeson’s ability to be a major action hero that people enjoy rooting for. What rules does Neeson follow as to the projects he chooses? For one, making quality action pictures is certainly the primary rule Neeson seems to abide by.
