CONSTANTINE 2: Keanu Reeves Says Sequel is a Real Possibility if a Script Comes Through

Keanu Reeves Gives Fans Hope for Constantine 2

It has been revealed that a request for a script has been issued for a sequel to Keanu Reeves‘s wildly popular 2005 horror movie, Constantine.

On “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Keanu Reeves stated that he is waiting for a script for the sequel to Constantine and that the project could be a “go” pending the arrival of a satisfying screenplay. Reeves was on Colbert’s show back in 2021 when the talk show host made Reeves admit that he would like to play his role from 2005’s Constantine again in a sequel. The first film featured a story line centered on Heaven and Hell– or angels and demons, if you will. Reeves portrayed a “paranormal detective/demon hunter” in the 2005 movie who sets himself on deciphering the needs and wants of the various characters which were showcased in the picture.

There are two performers whose work really stood out in Constantine. One was Oscar-winner for Michael Clayton, Tilda Swinton and the other was the always excellent Peter Stormare. Another Academy Award winner, Rachel Weisz, was in it too but she was reduced to a role unworthy of her talents in the science-fiction horror movie. Swinton has suggested that Reeves will play an angel, Gabriel, in the upcoming sequel while Stormare is said to want to take on the roles of “the Devil and God.”

Constantine was not a wholly successful film with most critics. It is at a 46% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating. However, Reeves seems to have really enjoyed his role in the picture enough to want to do a sequel. It was a sloppy movie but very original and the imagery was undeniably fascinating. Audiences were somewhat receptive to the DC comics-based film. Constantine earned a good for the genre (horror) “B” CinemaScore grade back on its opening night in 2005.

It didn’t matter that critics didn’t exactly love Constantine when it came to returns at the box-office. It made a respectable $75 million at the domestic box-office and another $154 million internationally which proved the movie’s imagery overcame its lack of a coherent plot. Though the characters in the movie were fleshed out somewhat, the film could have used some more substance to go with its stylish images. The sequel would undoubtedly rekindle interest in the original and could get Reeves fans to line up again to see him take on the depths of Heaven and Hell in the follow-up film.

While the filmmakers and actors wait for a script, there is currently no word as to what performers from the original will be back (besides Reeves) nor is there any news as to whether or not there will be new big-name actors attached to roles in the picture.
