DEADPOOL 3 (2024): Jennifer Garner Set to Return as Elektra in Upcoming Sequel

Jennifer Garner Elektra

Jennifer Garner Slated to Return as Elektra

Jennifer Garner will be reprising her role as Elektra in next year’s Marvel tentpole, Deadpool 3, which is due out in May, 2024.

In a stroke of genius, Disney’s 2024 Marvel release, Deadpool 3, will showcase Jennifer Garner in the action hero role which helped make her a household name. That part would be that of Elektra who was showcased in both 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s spin-off film, Elektra. Garner has been doing comedies again recently such as Netflix’s Yes Day but will be returning to the action picture genre with Deadpool 3. Not that Deadpool 3 doesn’t have a whole lot of humor immersed in it. On the contrary. Expect Hugh Jackman, Garner and Ryan Reynolds to be a Marvel superhero comic dream team for Disney with their work in the upcoming Deadpool 3.

When Garner appeared with Ben Affleck in 2003’s Daredevil, the result was a smashing success that grossed over $100 million domestically. When its studio, 20th Century Fox, put out a standalone Elektra movie with Jennifer Garner that was actually called Elektra, audiences liked it just about the same as they liked Daredevil. Both films received OK “B” CinemaScore grades. But, the box-office gross of Elektra was just a small fraction of that of Daredevil. All Elektra could muster at the domestic box-office on Garner’s name alone was $24 million and that’s despite the fact that Garner was already a movie star with her 2004 comedy, 13 Going on 30, making an astonishing $57 million domestically. Deadpool 3 now gives Garner another chance to make more audiences aware of the action hero she once was and will certainly be again.

Deadpool movies have been huge box-office tentpoles for 20th Century Studios and Marvel. Both previous Deadpool movies scored straight “A” CinemaScore grades in 2016 and 2018, respectively. The first Deadpool movie earned $363 million domestically and Deadpool 2 made  $324 million. With Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine in Deadpool 3 and Jennifer Garner portraying Elektra in a comic twist that will please Marvel fans (and Garner fans) immensely, expect a box-office gross of close to $375 million for Deadpool 3.

Jennifer Garner pretty much launched her big career with a lead role on the hit show, “Alias.” That led her to Daredevil. She returned to action roles in the 2018 modestly successful movie, Peppermint. That 2018 picture did $35 million domestically and received a “B+” CinemaScore. Garner also showed her light side in director Mark Waters’ hysterical $55 million grossing Ghosts of Girlfriends Past from 2009 which co-starred Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey, Michael Douglas and Emma Stone. That film earned a “B” CinemaScore just like the films in which Garner played Elektra but Deadpool 3 should secure a grade in the “A” range if it follows its predecessors’ lead.
