EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (2022): Former Kid Actor Ke Huy Quan Makes Comeback in Acclaimed New Hit Movie

Former Child Actor Ke Huy Quan Makes Comeback in New Film

1980’s kid actor, Ke Huy Quan, is currently making headlines for his new role in the acclaimed film, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

When Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came out in 1984, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford)’s young sidekick in the movie was Short Round, a funny charismatic kid who gets himself immersed in Indy’s adventures throughout the film. A year later in 1985’s The Goonies, Quan was featured as Data, one of the most memorable of the young characters showcased in the action-packed picture. Now, Quan is garnering much attention for his role in the wildly energetic A24 film sensation, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

You don’t see it happen every day. A kid actor bows out of the acting business and then, after decades, reemerges as a true contender in a major motion picture. It’s happening right now with Quan who is playing against the always formidable Michelle Yeoh and, to everyone’s surprise, Quan is more than holding his own beside Yeoh in the picture. In a recent interview with The New York Times, the former child star detailed his experiences trying to land parts after his two big starring roles in the mid-1980’s. It wasn’t easy to get a good role then but the 51-year old actor has proven that it’s never too late to start up doing something one loves doing all over again.

I’ll save the details of the new film’s plot for the movie review (coming this weekend). However, it’s a notable accomplishment to hear of when one considers Quan’s terrific acting abilities playing variations on his character in the picture who is the husband of a laundromat owner. More on that will be discussed in this weekend’s review.

When Quan first worked with Spielberg, he wasn’t even aware of how big the director was! In 2018, the actor was working behind the scenes on Crazy Rich Asians when he got the acting bug back and called an agent. The rest is history. He is now being seen in one of the biggest A24 pictures of the year. Quan admitted his admiration for Yeoh in the aforementioned interview with The New York Times.

Ke Huy Quan is living proof that it’s never too late to do something that you love doing. His story is inspirational and shows that perseverance and talent go a long way in the land of cinema. His current movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once will be opening wider this weekend and is expected to do well at the specialty box-office while stirring up potential Oscar buzz in the interim.
