Beavis Butt Head Flying In Space Beavis And Butt Head Do The Universe

Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe Review

Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe (2022) Film Review, a movie directed by Albert Calleros and John Rice, written by Mike Judge, Lewis Morton, Guy Maxtone-Graham and Ian Maxtone-Graham and starring Mike Judge, Gary Cole, Nat Faxon, Chi McBride, Andrea Savage, Carlos Alazraqui, Susan Bennett, Mary Birdsong, Greg Chun, Chris Diamantopoulos, Zehra Fazal, Ashley Gardner, David Herman, Brian Huskey, Toby Huss and Phil LaMarr.

Don’t accuse Beavis and Butt-Head of being unable to stand the test of time. On a weekend in late 1996, they were the stars of the #1 box-office attraction at movie theaters: Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. That film played on movie screens across the country and on its opening weekend bested the weekend numbers boasted by Jerry Maguire, Mars Attacks! and One Fine Day. Well, Jerry Maguire ultimately made more money, overall, but who cares? For one weekend, Beavis and Butt-Head “scored.” The new follow-up to that 1996 MTV produced comedy is titled Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe and it’s like the two ridiculously funny characters, Beavis and Butt-Head, never left. Not even for minute.

As a film critic, I should be able to easily explain why I couldn’t stop laughing at a movie. I could not tell you why, exactly, but I was so interested in the sequel’s plot development, I couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen. Nor could I keep from smiling. Beavis and Butt-Head are back as their respective selves in a wacky animated joke fest that never ceases to amaze. How low will the scriptwriters go to show us how desperate Beavis and Butt-Head are to score (read: have sex)? They’ll go pretty low, and you’ll adore every minute of it if you are a fan of the original film.

This movie’s plot is ludicrous. A judge named Metcalf (voiced by Chi McBride) sends sex crazed young men Beavis and Butt-Head to space camp after a fiasco at a high school science contest. Beavis and Butt-Head make the machines and equipment there look like they are making sexual motions (masturbation-type and otherwise) which is seen differently by astronaut Serena (voice of Andea Savage). Serena thinks they’re geniuses! Serena is okay-looking by cartoon standards, but Beavis and Butt-Head are so interested in “scoring,” they interpret Serena’s compliments and suggestions as sexual advancements and can’t wait to get it on with her. I won’t give anything else away plot wise as this movie is just fun to watch and to see how low the filmmakers will go for a laugh.

Essentially, the whole entire premise revolves around the assumption by Beavis and Butt-Head that Serena wants to have sex with them. It’s absurd, yet somehow plausible, given the movie’s dialogue and situations. When an official wants to see Beavis and Butt-Head escape, he gives them every opportunity to run away to tell their story (which turns preposterous as they are believed to be alien beings at one point) but Beavis and Butt-Head are intent on scoring no matter what.

There are a bunch of scenes towards the ending where Beavis and Butt-Head drive a car backwards. This is the perfect way to explain their mentality. “R” on the stick shift of the car must stand for “really fast” and the young men truthfully believe that. Would it be wrong to say that people like Beavis and Butt-Head could actually exist? Probably, but there’s a little bit more of Beavis and Butt-Head in some everyday people than folks would like to admit. Of course, people won’t do the stupid things the characters do in the movie, but they could think some of the things the guys think. Right?

Beavis and Butt-Head get abused by some of the people surrounding them in this movie to a certain extent but they’re too busy worrying about getting laid to notice. It’s a classic Beavis and Butt-Head story. These characters will fight, make up and fight some more but they’re the best of friends, underneath it all for sure. Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe is all in fun and is highly entertaining. There is a lot going on here. Whether Beavis and Butt-Head, as characters, get any of it, by film’s end, there is the suggestion that they do as a matter of fact grow as people. Not too much but enough to make another sequel wanted.

This isn’t great art but it’s entertaining nonsense that could make you stop and think about how Beavis and Butt-Head are a bit more relatable than we want them to be. Maybe they’re just morons but they’re morons who make us laugh and in doing so, they must, as a result have a little bit of substance within them. Don’t you think?
