PRACTICAL MAGIC 3: Sandra Bullock Wouldn’t Mind if the Witch Film Series Continued On

A Practical Magic 3 is Not Off the Table

Sandra Bullock is all for “passing the torch” to her younger co-stars from the upcoming second Practical Magic movie for a potential third entry in the long-admired witch film series.

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock may not be back for another Practical Magic movie after the sure-to-be epic conclusion of the upcoming Practical Magic 2. Joey King and Maisie Williams play Sally (Bullock)’s daughters in the movie due out next week, and Bullock has hinted that if the upcoming movie is a success, a third entry could wind up being in the works at some point, potentially featuring the younger daughters as the lead characters.

Although it certainly makes one wonder how the new Practical Magic movie is going to end, Bullock will likely not be back for a leading role in the third film, judging from the actress’s recent comments. She’s talking about passing the torch, supposedly to the younger daughter characters. It could just be a bit superstitious to think anything would happen to an Owens sister at the end of Practical Magic 2, but why wouldn’t Bullock have said all three generations of Owens sisters would come back for the third picture? inquiring minds want to know.

The Owens family was first introduced to moviegoers in 1998’s Griffin Dunne-helmed Practical Magic. Susanne Bier directed the sequel due on September 10th. Nicole Kidman, and Bullock play the unlucky in love sisters who had to deal with death, spells and love in the original picture.

Nicole Kidman’s involvement in the second film is actually something of a minor miracle, given the actress’s recent critical acclaim in movies like Babygirl, a film for “witch” the actress received excellent recognition overall. Of course, the new Practical Magic is a two-hour plus film and is said to be almost an entirely different animal than the original picture in early social media posts.

Bullock hasn’t been in the spotlight too much lately, but she’s an Oscar-winner for Best Actress, just like Kidman, herself, is. Both of these stars have had ample time to improve their acting chops, and their performances in the second film could be much better than their turns in the first movie, “witch” were actually perfectly fine at the time of the original’s theatrical release.

The author of the Practical Magic books, Alice Hoffman, has also written a pair of prequels, so the third movie could end up being a prequel, in “witch” case, probably none of the central stars of Practical Magic 2 would come back. It’s hard to know what path the series should take without seeing the second film yet, but FilmBook will be reviewing the new film soon to let audiences know if it was worth the 28-year wait.
