PRACTICAL MAGIC 2 (2026): Aidan Quinn Not Returning for Eagerly Awaited Witch Sequel
Aidan Quinn Not Coming Back for Practical Magic 2
Aidan Quinn will not be returning as Sandra Bullock‘s love interest in this fall’s witch sequel from Warner Bros., Practical Magic 2.
In 1998, Aidan Quinn and Sandra Bullock had some nice chemistry together in the comedy, Practical Magic. There’s a sequel due out in September and Quinn won’t be joining the cast, unfortunately. There’s has been much news about this long-awaited sequel, so this development comes as no surprise. If Quinn was going to return, we would have heard about it as extensive casting coverage for this project was revealed over the past year or so.
Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing will be retuning as Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock’s witty aunts. It all comes down to the plot of the Alice Hoffman-book based sequel. In these Practical Magic stories, the characters, the female Owens family, has a very bad history with men as they seem to die untimely deaths. Expect Quinn’s character to have been killed off by the author, for whatever reason. That seems like the logical answer for Quinn’s absence.
Quinn wasn’t invited back for the sequel even for so much as a cameo. Perhaps, his character’s involvement with the story ended with the conclusion of the first movie. Quinn had a splendid time working with Bullock on the 1998 original film, according to sources.
Joey King and Lee Pace are among the cast members who will serve to fill in the plot details of the upcoming sequel in lieu of and because of the absence of the talented Quinn who is now 67-years of age.
Practical Magic 2 recently had a trailer unveiled. It seems midnight margaritas will be back in the mix again. That was one of the most popular concepts from the 1998 original. The Owens sisters (Bullock and Kidman) danced late at night with the aunts as they drank in a hilarious scenario that could be duplicated in the forthcoming sequel.
Quinn’s absence from the sequel probably won’t hurt the box-office prospects for Practical Magic 2. This movie isn’t really about the men. It’s about the women – those quirky ladies from the Owens family. Quinn has also appeared in other old hit movies from the 1990’s such as Legends of the Fall and the thriller, Blink.
Expect Practical Magic 2 to open in the $20 million range during its first weekend in September. It isn’t going to be directed by Griffin Dunne like the first picture was, so Dunne isn’t the only one sitting out the second time around for this franchise. Susanne Bier is taking over directorial duties from Dunne on the upcoming comedy witch sequel.
