PRACTICAL MAGIC 2 (2026): Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest Slated to Play Aunts Again in Witch Movie Sequel

Screen Veteran Actresses Return For Practical Magic Sequel

Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are all set to reprise their roles as Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet in the new Practical Magic sequel from Warner Bros.

In the upcoming sequel Practical Magic 2, we’ll see old-time actresses Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest put the lime in the coconut and have midnight margaritas if we’re lucky enough. At the bare minimum, we’ll be seeing these two great stars reprise their supporting roles from 1998’s Practical Magic in director Susanne Bier’s new witch movie. Bier is taking over directorial duties from Griffin Dunne who helmed the 1998 picture. Also coming on board the sequel are new stars Joey King, Lee Pace and Maisie Williams among others. We don’t know if Aidan Quinn will be back, but it could be iffy at this juncture in time. The sequel is due out around the middle of September, 2026.

The budget for Practical Magic 2 could be getting higher with so many great stars on board, but whatever the price tag is to get the great Channing and Wiest back is well worth it. They made us laugh with their broomsticks and hats in the first one whether the movie was a box-office hit at the time or not. As far as the first 1998 movie is concerned, it opened strongly around Halloween, but didn’t hold up enough to justify its budget at the time. With a big fan base that has formed over the years, the second movie in the series looks to be bigger than the first.

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are the main witches in these Practical Magic movies and, now, they’ll probably be given a run for their money by characters played by Joey King and Maisie Williams in the new picture. Although we don’t know King’s and Williams’s exact functions in the plot, they both have that distinct look that makes us think they could be next in line to carry on the “witchy” spirits of Bullock’s and Kidman’s lead characters. King is said to be playing Bullock’s daughter in the new movie. Lee Pace of the recent Tribeca film, After This Death, also has been cast in the new movie and he should have a part that plays a substantial role in the new sequel.

Wiest is known best for her Woody Allen film performances in Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway, but she also appeared in hits like Edward Scissorhands and The Lost Boys before that. Stockard Channing was the friend who inspired The First Wives Club in the film of the same name. Channing is a legendary actress who played in Grease and one of my favorite critical failures, Life or Something Like It, where Channing played with Angelina Jolie.
