Upcoming Ghostbusters Picture Moves its Release Date Up a Week

Sony‘s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has moved up its release date a week from March 29. 2024 to March 22, 2024, inspiring hopes for a big box-office hit.

When 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife came out, it did pretty solid business at the box-office. It even mustered up a swell “A-” CinemaScore grade from opening night audiences. So, it’s no surprise that the follow-up, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, has inspired industry insiders to believe that this upcoming sequel will be a successful one. Now, the studio has moved up the release date a whole week from March 29th to March 22nd. The box-office is thus probably going to be bigger this way since the release of the film will let word of mouth build to tap deeper into Easter weekend audiences’s urges to catch a movie.

Comparisons to “The Real Ghostbusters,” an animated series from decades back, were inevitable for this new upcoming picture which features the story of an iced over New York City. Old pros Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and the prolific Ernie Hudson (Champions) will reprise their roles from the earlier Ghostbusters films in the upcoming sequel.

Dune: Part Two will have been released for three weeks when the new Ghostbusters picture comes out in theaters thus the Dune movie should have already tapped into much of that particular film’s initial target audience. This will pave the way for the new Ghostbusters movie to clean up at the box-office.

Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, the central stars of the comedic Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be returning in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire as well. Ghosts like Slimer and the infamous “Ectomobile,” Ecto-1, will also be back in the action in the next Ghostbusters movie.

Gil Kenan has directed Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire which promises to have an exciting villain at its center in addition to new key science fiction ingredients that were similar to the ones that made the previous 2021 movie such a smashing success. Kenan previously directed the animated hit, Monster House and the remake of the horror classic, Poltergeist, which was released back in 2015. That Poltergeist film has an unfortunate mere 29% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes so let’s hope Kenan has learned from his mistakes over the past several years and is ready to deliver a Ghostbusters movie which fans will adore.

So, who you gonna call while you wait for the new Ghostbusters movie to come out? How about some friends to accompany you to see the new sequel when it hits theaters on March 22nd? This is a much better date for fans than waiting around until the 29th for the next chapter of this very entertaining franchise.
