Happy Death Day 3 Slated to Move Forward

In an interview about his new movie Drop, Christopher Landon revealed that talks are in motion to eventually set a Happy Death Day 3 into production.

Jessica Rothe may be returning to the Happy Death Day franchise as an interview with director Christopher Landon recently revealed. IMDb lists the title of the project as Happy Death Day To Us although there is no other concrete determination (as of yet) that will be the final title for the 3rd movie in the Groundhog Day of horror films, the Happy Death Day series. It had been revealed in articles a little bit of time ago that this 3rd movie may not be happening, but Landon’s recent interview has shed light on the possibility that it could actually come into fruition.

Rothe stated in an interview of her own that she’s certainly “in” for a 3rd Happy Death Day picture. She portrays Tree Gelbman who relives the same day over and over again in these pictures. Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U both received “B” CinemaScore grades as did last night’s release, Drop. All three of these films have fascinating concepts that could divide audiences given that they can be a bit frustrating to watch at times. Drop is about a date in a restaurant in a high rise building that turns into a suspense tale as someone texts the main female character that he will kill her kid if she doesn’t kill her date.

Christopher Landon also revealed in another recent interview that he departed the job to direct Scream VII because  of death threats and backlash that he received after Melissa Barrera was fired from the movie for her political views. Landon pointed out that people were attacking his family digitally over all the controversy surrounding Scream VII, so Landon respectively bowed out of the project for safety reasons. Landon was not the one who fired Barrera, according to the director.

The Happy Death Day movies were successful from a financial standpoint although the first film fared considerably better than the second one did at the box-office. Though the 1st movie made $55 million domestically, the second one, Happy Death Day 2U, only earned $28 million in the US and Canada although it surpassed that amount internationally which saved face for the film’s studio.

Meanwhile, Christopher Landon’s newest picture, Drop, holds an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is a good film to see for people looking for something suspenseful and different to watch this opening weekend. We will report more news on Happy Death Day To Us (AKA Happy Death Day 3) as it develops.
