SCREAM 7 (2024): Director Christopher Landon is No Longer Attached to Horror Movie Sequel

Scream 7 Director Bows Out of Project

Acclaimed horror film director, Christopher Landon, has exited the upcoming sequel, Scream 7, casting some doubt over the future of the project.

In yet another unusual and unfortunate turn of events for the forthcoming film, Scream 7, its proposed director quietly (and formally) left the project which means this is the third consecutive stroke of bad luck for the seventh entry in the wildly popular horror movie series. Landon stated that he left the project weeks ago and that, although he has a fondness for the legacy of Wes Craven’s legacy, he will no longer be making the picture.

The would-be star of the next Scream movie was supposed to be the actress who played the lead in the previous two movies, Melissa Barrera, but because of her comments regarding citizens of Palestine, she was prematurely dismissed from starring in the movie.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Jenna Ortega left the seventh entry in the Scream series as well. This could have been due to scheduling conflicts with her commitment to Netflix’s “Wednesday” although other assertions arose surrounding her departure from the franchise. Stories had been revealed that Ortega’s lack of sufficient pay was the real reason that she left the movie.

Landon had been an exciting new addition to the Scream series when his name was announced as director earlier in the year. Landon is the one who was responsible for Happy Death Day and Freaky which were both horror movies with plenty of style and humor to spare. It is disappointing to Scream fans that he will not be directing the new picture in the franchise but given the uncertainty of the cast and all the controversy surrounding it, Landon’s departure seems to somewhat make sense in the grand scheme of things.

Scream VI was a box-office hit which could mean that Scream 7 will eventually happen although if it does, it will be with a different filmmaker at its helm than Landon. That means it’s probably back to the drawing board for the seventh Scream movie for almost everyone involved. It was rumored that former co-star of these movies, Neve Campbell, could be coming back but nothing is set in stone as of yet at this particular point in time.

It was said by Landon that he hopes that the Scream series still thrives in wake of his departure from the project. A replacement for Landon could be underway although there is no projected date at this time in terms of when, exactly, one will be found to take over the project if it remains similar in nature to its previous embodiment. With Landon’s exit, it seems this movie could start over from scratch in the pre-production stages. More news will be revealed as details emerge.
