Melissa Barrera Slated to Come Back for Next Installment of Scream

Melissa Barrera has proven that she’s no here today, gone tomorrow star and will be appearing in the next chapter of the horror franchise Scream.

If anyone made audiences eager to see a follow-up to this year’s “requel,” Scream, it was the always fantastic Melissa Barrera who shone in her role in the box-office hit from this past January. Now, it has been reported that Barrera is one of four stars from the 2022 smash-hit movie who will be coming back for another chapter surrounding the film’s infamous “Ghostface” killer. The other three returning performers will be: Jenna Ortega (X), Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

In just a short period of time, Barrera has defined herself as one of the most exciting young actresses to hit Hollywood in years. If you need any proof of this besides her unpredictable work in this year’s Scream, you can take a look at her performance in the criminally underrated musical from last year, In the Heights, where Barrera emerged as a true scene-stealer among a cast full of impeccable talent.

In the Heights earned a mere $29 million at the domestic box-office but established Barrera as a first-rate talent who should be taken seriously. Audiences absolutely loved the movie musical awarding it a coveted “A” CinemaScore grade. Critics were on the same page as viewers and the film stands at a 94% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating.

It was this year’s Scream, however, which solidified the deal that Barrera was a genuine article and a truly gifted actress. Audiences didn’t know which way her character in the movie would turn next and it even seemed that she could have been the killer in the picture judging from her skillful performance. $81 million was earned at the domestic box-office by this fifth film in the franchise which is a genuine “requel.” For those who don’t know, a “requel” is a reboot that also serves as a sequel and thus can be officially deemed both a reboot and a sequel.

While the other players coming back are also undoubtedly very talented, Barrera rose above the others just enough to make fans of the horror franchise excited at the promise of her return in the sixth installment of the ever popular horror series. Ortega fans recently got a glimpse of the actress in the hit horror movie X which proves Ortega is a new horror film “scream” queen. This new Scream film will start shooting in the not-too-distant future (this summer, to be precise) with an expected release date of March 31, 2023.
