Kevin Smith is in the Process of Writing a Third JAY AND SILENT BOB Movie

Kevin Smith Jason Mewes Jay And Silent Bob Reboot

A Third Jay and Silent Bob Project is in the Works

With the 30th anniversary of the Kevin Smith classic indie film, Clerks, looming, the director has decided to write a third Jay and Silent Bob film.

Although Clerks III made less than $5 million domestically at the box-office last year, it was a really heartfelt film for director Smith who is now celebrating 30 years since the release of the beloved first Clerks movie in 1994. In order to expedite the artistic process for another movie showcasing two central characters from that film, Jay and Silent Bob, Smith is getting going forward and penning the third Jay and Silent Bob movie.

These two characters from the Clerks films got their own spin-off film in 2001 with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which made a sweet $30 million at the box-office when it was originally released. Waiting until 2019 for Jay and Silent Reboot may have backfired from a financial standpoint with that second film in the series grossing just under $5 million domestically. For whatever reason, Smith isn’t going to wait another 18 years for a third Jay and Silent Bob movie. He’s putting pen to paper and writing the forthcoming project now.

Smith and actor Jason Mewes play the characters of Silent Bob and Jay in these movies and the Clerks films. These hilarious Smith creations were also featured in Smith’s older films such as Dogma and Chasing Amy as well. These characters frequent a convenience store and used to hang out at a video store. They are very creative concoctions by the actors Mewes and Smith.

It was revealed that Smith got to thinking about the potential for a third Jay and Silent Bob film with the 30th anniversary of Clerks coming up next year. Clerks was a film that was made on a shoestring budget of less than $30,000. Clerks II earned a very respectable $24 million when it opened in 2006, proving there were plenty of Clerks fans out there.

It has been reported that Smith is planning to make the new third outing in the Jay and Silent Bob film series a bit unpredictable in nature and it is pretty clear that the director will follow suit with what he did with last year’s Clerks III with Jay and Silent Bob 3. Clerks III had a very surprising conclusion which I certainly won’t reveal just in case you haven’t gotten around to seeing it just yet.

Mewes didn’t want to wait too long to revisit his role as Jay again for a third film in the franchise. It’s impossible to believe 30 years have almost passed since the premiere of the wildly creative Clerks. With some luck, Smith (who plays Silent Bob) will have some great directions to take the two central characters of these pictures and make the audience laugh and cry just like he did last year with the brilliant Clerks III.
