MADAME WEB (2023): Isabela Merced Joins Dakota Johnson in New Upcoming Spin-off Film

Isabela Merced Comes On Board Spider-Man Spin-off Film

The versatile young actress Isabela Merced has just been added to the cast of an upcoming superhero movie of sorts called Madame Web.

Dakota Johnson will be playing Madame Web in an upcoming 2023 movie with that title about a psychic who can see into the “spider world.” Now, it has been revealed that Isabela Merced (Instant Family) will be joining Johnson in a role alongside her in the high-profile project which is expected to be unleashed into theaters on July 7, 2023. Isabela Merced was once named Isabela Moner but she changed her name and, despite the name change, is still one of the hottest up-and-comers in Hollywood right now.

Merced’s most notable action role to date was in the 2017 Paramount Pictures Mark Wahlberg starring would-be blockbuster, Transformers: The Last Knight. That film sort of under performed at the box-office, but nevertheless brought Merced’s remarkable talents into view. She followed up her part in that science fiction picture with an instantly memorable role opposite Wahlberg (again) in the terrific gem, Instant Family. She also performed a song called “I’ll Stay” that was played during the picture’s closing credits. That picture earned a wonderful “A” CinemaScore grade and put Merced on the map as a dramatic actress to contend with.

Family audiences were treated to Merced’s fine turn in the lead role as Dora the Explorer in 2019’s action-packed family movie, Dora and the Lost City of Gold which garnered another coveted “A” CinemaScore mark from movie-goers.

Merced took a bit of a tiny stumble playing in the odd action movie Sweet Girl opposite Jason Momoa. That was a film which had a last-minute twist that proved very annoying for the majority of viewers of the Netflix disappointment. However, Merced’s turn was still compelling enough to win over a couple of fans for that unusual action picture.

Merced’s other upcoming could-be-a-hit picture in the works is the film in which she plays the legendary Juliet of “Romeo and Juliet” fame. This will be in the forthcoming picture, Rosaline which is due out soon.

The greatly anticipated Madame Web will be directed by S.J. Clarkson and the film is going to have all eyes on its star Dakota Johnson who is coming off one of the year’s best performances in the great movie, Cha Cha Real Smooth which is due out this month. While Johnson could be headed to awards glory for that film, Merced is setting the stage for a career which is one of the most promising ones of young actresses working today. Judging from her terrific dramatic turn in the $67 million domestic box-office grossing Instant Family, I wouldn’t rule out award nominations for Merced in the not-too-distant future. She’s one of our brightest young stars.
