MALEFICIENT (2014): Clips of Angelina Jolie Premiere at D23

Angelina Jolie stepped out this weekend to speak about the upcoming film Maleficent (2014) at D23. Jolie will star as the infamous villain in a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the villain.

At D23 this weekend Angelina spoke to the audience, explaining “Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was always drawn to her.” She revealed that her brother called her when he found out they were making the movie and pushed her to go after the part.

 The film is set for release in July 2 of 2014.

Paul Dini and Linda Woolverton write Maleficent. Robert Stromberg is set to direct. This is a Walt Disney Film with Don Hahn and Joe Roth producing. Other cast includes Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Miranda Richardson, and Imelda Staunton.

Maleficent is the untold story of Disney’s infamous villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. The film reveals the events that hardened Maleficent heart and drove her to curse baby Princess Aurora, The Sleeping Beauty (played by Elle Fanning). Brenton Thwaites will play Prince Phillip and Sharlto Copley will be King Stefan.

James Newton Howard will be composing the film. Howard is the recipient of eight Academy Awards. Some of his best known work Batman Begins (with Hans Zimmer), I Am Legend, The Dark Knight (also with Zimmer), and, most recently Green Lantern, The Hunger Games, Snow White and the Huntsman, and The Bourne Legacy.

Angelina Jolie will also be directing the upcoming film Unbroken (2013) with the Coen Brothers rewriting the script.
