MY BEST FRIEND’S BIRTHDAY (1987) Video: Quentin Tarantino, Craig Hamann

Quentin Tarantino, My Best Friend's Birthday

The My Best Friend’s Birthday Video has premiered. Quentin Tarantino‘s My Best Friend’s Birthday (1987) stars Quentin Tarantino, Craig Hamann, Crystal Shaw, Allen Garfield, and Al Harrell. My Best Friend’s Birthday plot synopsis: “It’s Mickey’s Birthday and his girlfriend just left him, so that’s when his friend Clarence shows him a birthday he’ll never forget.” What a surprise. I had know idea My Best Friend’s Birthday existed. I thought I had seen all of Quentin Tarantino’s written or directed films (except for Natural Born Killers. That doesn’t count since it was re-written). Guess I was wrong.

It was filmed back in 1984 for $5000.

The film was completed, but the final reel was destroyed in a lab fire that broke out during editing. The surviving part of the film was shown in part to a small crowd in early 1987.

Actor Allen Garfield was teaching Quentin Tarantino acting at the time, and that is how he also became involved in the project. Filmed over three years, from 1984-1987.

Later became the basis for True Romance (1993).
