THE MOVIE CRITIC: Quentin Tarantino Sets His 10th and Final Feature Film Project as a Director

Legendary Director Sets His Final Film

Quentin Tarantino has decided on his final feature film project (as a director) which will be a movie titled The Movie Critic.

While many had expected writer/director Quentin Tarantino to soon take on another Kill Bill movie, Tarantino seems to have shifted gears towards another type of film project instead. That upcoming picture will be titled The Movie Critic and since it is about a female film critic and is said to be set in Los Angeles in the 1970’s, it seems likely that this movie will be about the great movie critic, Pauline Kael, who passed away in 2001. Tarantino is said to have had great admiration for Kael’s work.

Of course, Tarantino wrote the script for The Movie Critic and will certainly direct it. Tarantino has been a candidate for Best Director over the years but hasn’t quite grasped the Oscar in his hands in that particular category. Not quite yet. He won the Academy Award for two of his screenplays but never garnered the directorial main prize from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his work. He won his Oscars for penning Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained.

Tarantino has flirted with the idea of retiring and is soon upon making a picture which he claims will be his last. Some fans are a bit disappointed that it’s not a Kill Bill volume but still, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding Tarantino’s new project, The Movie Critic. The movie’s proposed subject, Pauline Kael, is best known for her criticism for The New Yorker and was always a critic who told it like it was in terms of her criticism.

Many people thought Tarantino would take home the gold for Best Director for 1994’s Pulp Fiction. It didn’t happen, though, as Tom Hanks’ blockbuster movie, Forrest Gump, ultimately stole its thunder.

Recently, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood was a major blockbuster bonanza for Tarantino in 2019 before COVID and the pandemic hit. It earned an astonishing $142 million domestically and $235 million internationally. It was the movie that landed Brad Pitt an Oscar win and launched the career of Julia Butters. It also starred the late Luke Perry and garnered a leading nomination for its star, Leonardo DiCaprio.

The big question mark hanging over The Movie Critic is whether or not audiences will show up for a movie about a film critic whose prime has long passed. A lot of the success of the film will depend on the casting. It will take a movie star to back up Tarantino and get this project some box-office appeal. When the casting is finally done, it will make understanding just how strong this project can be a little easier.
