Quentin Tarantino Planning Retirement After Next Film

Quentin Tarantino has said that he plans to retire after his upcoming 10th film.

Quentin Tarantino has been busy. How busy? Just recently released was the novelization of Tarantino’s hit 2019 screenplay which he penned himself. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel was just made available to the world on June 29th. It remains uncertain as to whether or not he will write more books but he recently told Bill Maher that he plans on retiring from filmmaking after his 10th film. Nobody knows what that project will be as of yet but the renowned filmmaker has made it clear that he wants to step down from directing.

Who could forget in 1992 when Tarantino came on to the movie scene with his riveting masterpiece, Reservoir Dogs? If you don’t remember that one, odds are you certainly remember 1994’s mega-hit Pulp Fiction which starred John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman and Bruce Willis. Tarantino almost won the Oscar for Best Director for that one but that pesky little blockbuster Forrest Gump got in the way.

During his recent interview with Bill Maher, Tarantino has ruled out that his last film will be a remake of Reservoir Dogs, the film which launched his career. Tarantino did admit he considered it but it will not be his 10th movie.

Tarantino has been an iconic film director in Hollywood whether he’s directing half of a double feature in Grindhouse or making a three-hour epic such as The Hateful Eight or Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood.  He feels that he wants to go out of showbiz with a great film as opposed to keeping at work and making films which aren’t as good as his previous pictures. He referenced Don Siegel who he believes may have been better off quitting with Escape From Alcatraz.

It’s no surprise Tarantino has written a book. His talents have always been both writing and directing. In 1993, he co-wrote the screenplay for the cult classic True Romance which garnered him fans in between Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction almost 30 years ago.

Some of Tarantino’s other masterpieces include the two Kill Bill films and Inglourious Basterds. His least well received film was perhaps Four Rooms in 1995 which Tarantino directed one of the segments of.  We won’t mention his attempt at acting in a little seen movie called Destiny Turns on the Radio which made it clear acting wasn’t his strongpoint. However, in terms of filmmaking, he is a living legend. His new novelization of his 2019 masterpiece, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel, is now available at bookstores.

While it’s anyone’s guess what the director’s final film will be at this point, it seems clear that the legendary filmmaker wants to move on from doing what he is known best for.
