Nancy Meyers Will Return to Directing with Forthcoming Netflix Movie

Nancy Meyers Will Soon Be Back Behind the Camera

Much adored female director, Nancy Meyers, will be back directing again with a yet untitled upcoming Netflix picture.

When a female director creates audience friendly box-office hits with pretty much every movie she makes, “something’s gotta give.” Nancy Meyers certainly knows, though, that when it comes to pleasing both men and women with funny romance movies, “it’s complicated”. However, she definitely knows “what women want,” and with the last film she directed, 2015’s The Intern, she won over male movie-goers as well by casting the always fantastic Robert De Niro opposite Anne Hathaway. Many wondered what (and when) she would direct next and although details are being kept under wraps, it is in fact, going to be a Netflix movie.

In the year 2000, Meyers made What Women Want when Mel Gibson was at his box-office peak and Meyers got a great performance from Gibson and a cute turn from his co-star in the very successful picture, Helen Hunt. A comedic gem, the movie did quite well and secured a “B+” CinemaScore grade. In 2003, Nancy Meyers went on to make Something’s Gotta Give which earned Diane Keaton an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and the film beat out the Farrelly Brothers’s funny male heavy comedy, Stuck on You, at the box-office. Meryl Streep, funnily enough, had a cameo in Stuck on You and ended up in Meyers’ hilariously energetic film, It’s Complicated, from 2009 where Streep played off the comic likes of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Both Something’s Gotta Give and It’s Complicated scored “A-” CinemaScores and earned over $100 million at the domestic box-office.

2015’s The Intern also received an “A-” CinemaScore but made only $75 million at the domestic box-office. This was, perhaps, due to the movie’s late September opening in contrast to the times her other pictures had opened (they were all released around Christmastime). Audiences loved the 2015 picture but, for whatever reason, Meyers took some time off from directing after it finished production. However, Meyers helped her daughter Hallie Meyers Shyer, by producing a cute Reese Witherspoon movie called Home Again which was a bit of box-office slouch, bringing in a mere $27 million.

Nancy Meyers has worked with Netflix before. Meyers made Father of the Bride Part 3ish in 2020 which was a short and sweet 26 minutes in length. It reunited members of the popular Father of the Bride film series.

This new film for Netflix that Meyers will be making is going to be written and directed by the talented filmmaker. It will feature an ensemble cast but little else is known at this time in regards to who is going to be in it or what it will be about but judging from Meyers’ past movies, it should be a audience-pleaser that perfectly mixes comic and dramatic ingredients.
