Oscar Predictions: SINNERS, Ryan Coogler, Timothée Chalamet & Rose Byrne Hopefuls To Take Home Top Awards
Sinners Leads Predictions for the 2026 Oscar Nominations
Sinners is predicted to take home the Best Picture Oscar for 2025 films at next year’s Academy Awards ceremony.
It has been a great year for movies and industry experts have started to make lists of their expected nominations for next year’s Oscars. Over here at FilmBook, Sinners has only gotten better with age and is clearly the movie to beat for the Best Picture Academy Award. Rose Byrne should have Best Actress in the bag for her work in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, and Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme) will be in a tight race with Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon) for Best Actor. Of course, industry experts have pegged this as Paul Thomas Anderson’s year to win Best Director and Best Picture (One Battle After Another). If one reads the reviews at our site, then it is known that we much prefer the artistry of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners to the overlong One Battle After Another.
Best Actor nominees besides Chalamet and Hawke will be George Clooney (Jay Kelly), Michael B. Jordan (for his dual role in Sinners) and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent. The dark horse contender who could steal Moura’s spot is Joel Edgerton for Train Dreams. Again, Tim Blake Nelson could have found himself in this company for his performance in Bang Bang had the film made a larger overall impact with critics. Best Actress nominees likely joining Byrne will be Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value) and Laura Dern (Is This Thing On?).
In the Best Supporting Actor category, we will find Adam Sandler (Jay Kelly), likely winner Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another) and Paul Mescal for Hamnet. Best Supporting Actress contenders should be Gwyneth Paltrow (Marty Supreme), Glenn Close (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery) or Zoey Deutch (Nouvelle Vague), likely winner Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good) and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another).
Best Picture nominees (in no particular order) will likely be Sinners, Avatar: Fire and Ash, One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, Blue Moon, Frankenstein, Sentimental Value, It Was Just an Accident and Is This Thing On?. The Best Director nominees will probably be Ryan Coogler (Sinners), Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another), James Cameron (Avatar: Fire and Ash), Chloé Zhao (Hamnet) and Jafar Panahi (It Was Just an Accident).
We will keep you posted if these predictions change (and they may well do so), but for now these are the best bets one could make when it comes to predicting who will get nominated for and take home the gold!
