Paul Thomas Anderson’s Latest Film Project Begins the Casting Process

Paul Thomas Anderson Close Up

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Next Film to Begin Filming in the Summer

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson‘s new project has begun with an official casting call.

Paul Thomas Anderson is a “master” director. After last year’s well-reviewed gem, Licorice Pizza, earned three Oscar nods, people were wondering what the acclaimed moviemaker would be doing next. While all the answers have not been revealed yet, there is a casting call that suggests the process has begun to create Anderson’s next work of art.

On a popular casting website, it was discovered that a call had been announced to cast a “PTA/CK (Cassandra Kulukundis, a casting director)” project. Of courses, as is usually the case with Anderson’s film, the picture is listed as “untitled” at the present time. The filmmaker is seeking a teenage girl of mixed ethnic background. This actress should be physically fit and trained in Martial Arts. It was revealed the film would shoot in the summer of 2023 in- you guessed it- Los Angeles.

Anderson spoke of a 1940’s style jazz picture which he wanted to make but it’s not certain this is that picture. Not quite yet anyway. The proposed project would center in on Little Harlem of L.A. Art, music and the African American population at large in the aforementioned section of L.A. would be the topic of the movie. Tiffany Haddish of The Card Counter fame was said to have spoken with Anderson about such a similar film. It was mentioned that the topic of the picture would involve the idea of interracial relationships as well.

When Anderson made There Will Be Blood, he was deemed the King of Hollywood by many even though he ultimately lost the Oscar for Best Director of that film to The Coen Brothers. Daniel Day-Lewis proudly won the Academy Award for Best Actor for that same Anderson picture which the director lost the Oscar for.

Anderson started making his mark on the Hollywood movie scene with Boogie Nights and continued his winning streak with masterpieces such as Magnolia and The Master, to name just some of his fine works. When Phantom Thread came out, he could have won the Oscar except for a pesky little filmmaker known as Gullermo Del Toro who released his picture, The Shape of Water, the same year. Del Toro emerged victorious.

Anderson usually makes his projects without a lot of advance word on what they’re about but, this time, people have an idea of what he could be working on as opposed to when he made Licorice Pizza, which to me, for one, came out as a completely different film than what was hinted at through its advance publicity. Anderson likes to keep his film projects a secret but there’s no surprise that the buzz has started circulating that his next picture is in the works.
