Stellan Skarsgård Wins Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes For His Work in Sentimental Value

Stellan Skarsgård is Back on Track to Win Best Supporting Actor Oscar

Stellan Skarsgård has won the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe for his tremendous work in Sentimental Value, placing him back on top of the leader board in that category for the Oscars.

Last week, Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value), in a very big upset, lost the Critics Choice award for Best Supporting Actor to Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein). Skarsgård is now back on the path to Oscar victory for his excellent supporting performance in filmmaker Joachim Trier’s tremendously effective aforementioned dramatic movie, Sentimental Value. Skarsgård is a seasoned veteran who has appeared in great, widely acclaimed performances for more than 30 years, gaining the most notoriety with back-to-back turns in 1996/1997 masterpieces, Breaking the Waves and Good Will Hunting.

Amy Madigan (Weapons), meanwhile, lost the Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe to the wonderful Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) which really stirs up the race in that very fierce and competitive category. The votes for Sentimental Value supporting actresses, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas seemingly canceled one another out which makes Madigan and Taylor the two likely to duke it out for an Oscar win. Madigan getting nominated for an Academy Award is no longer a 100% sure thing, however, given her Golden Globe loss tonight. Taylor stands a better chance to get an actual nod from the Academy and win, given that her film, One Battle After Another, is one of the top two films to potentially win the Best Picture of the year Oscar. Still, Madigan deserves (and should get) that Academy Award nod, though. We shall see how the awards season develops.

Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical went to Timothée Chalamet for his remarkable work in Marty Supreme while Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical went to the absolutely brilliant Rose Byrne for the spellbinding, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Both winners are expected to repeat these wins at the Oscars at this particular point in time although, of course, they have to get nominated first. These wins at the Golden Globes tonight pretty much seal their assurance in terms of getting those much deserved Academy Award nominations.

“Golden” from the animated Netflix hit, KPop Demon Hunters, won the Best Original Song at the Globes tonight in another award that was presented early in the telecast. Best Screenplay, predictably enough, went to One Battle After Another‘s Paul Thomas Anderson. Look for more award winners later on tonight as we predict Sinners (Drama) and One Battle After Another (Musical or Comedy) will win their respective categories for Best Picture.
