PETE’S DRAGON (2016) Movie Trailer 2: Karl Urban vs. Human-loving Dragon

Pete’s Dragon Trailer 2

The second movie trailer for Pete’s Dragon (2016) has been released for the David Lowery directed film. This movie seems to be working on multiple levels. The first trailer focused mostly on Pete, his time in the forest, and his agility abilities. In that trailer, Pete’s dragon was off-screen. There was only reaction shots from people that saw the dragon. In this trailer, the dragon is fully on-screen.

Now that we can see the dragon, my old objection to the look and feel of the dragon still exist. Why not make the dragon look more realistic than cartoon-like? I guess they are trying not to frighten small children and Disney wants to stay as close to the spirit of the original film as possible.

In this trailer, Karl Urban‘s character is given a lot of screen time and is the antagonist of the film. Humor is everywhere in this trailer.

Example:

“Dragon. It’s a Dragon.”

“You can’t say Dragon over the radio.”

There is also a How to Train Your Dragon-feel to the end of the trailer.

Pete’s Dragon also stars Oakes Fegley, Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley, Craig Hall, Oona Laurence, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Marcus Henderson, Esmée Myers, Gareth Reeves, Phil Grieve, Tim Wong, Jim McLarty, and Annabelle Malaika Süess.

Pete’s Dragon‘s plot synopsis: “For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley).

Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.”
