Emma Stone Takes Best Actress Oscar as Oppenheimer Shines

Emma Stone won the Best Actress Oscar as her film, Poor Things, also won 3 surprising technical Oscars and Oppenheimer dominated the major Academy Award categories.

In a race to the finish for the Academy Award for Best Actress, Emma Stone emerged triumphant over Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) in the stacked category of Best Actress. Almost everything else went down as planned in the major categories.

Oppenheimer took Best Picture and Christopher Nolan was awarded the Oscar for Best Director for that hugely successful box-office hit. Robert Downey Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph took the Oscars in the Best Supporting categories for their work in Oppenheimer and The Holdovers, respectfully. In the Best Actor category, Cillian Murphy proved too formidable an opponent for Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) to steal his glory.

Poor Things won where Barbie was expected to win in a couple of key categories: Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Poor Things also prevailed in Best Makeup where it managed to prove how great a job Willem Dafoe’s makeup in the film truly was. This Oscar may have been earned primarily for the makeup associated with Dafoe’s role as the scarred mad scientist who creates Emma Stone’s character in the picture, although all the other makeup in the film was exceptional as well.

Ryan Gosling stole the show with his performance of “I’m Just Ken” as Gosling and some other Ken’s rocked the stage as well. This number had audience members cheering and Barbie director, Greta Gerwig, was even involved in the performance. If you missed it, be sure to check it out.

The Best Screenplay Oscars went to Anatomy of a Fall (Best Original) and American Fiction (Best Adapted). A major surprise was certainly the win of Godzilla Minus One for Best Visual Effects. In other news of the night, The Zone of Interest won Best Sound and Best International Film. Also, Wes Anderson got an Oscar for his short film, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar but failed to show up at the ceremony to collect it.

Oppenheimer‘s dominance at the awards tonight had been predicted at the movie’s very conception. But, Poor Things proved a competitive opponent with 4 Oscars under its own belt.

As the night went on, Jimmy Kimmel proved to be a reliable host. Although some of the humor seemed to be banal, overall, Kimmel did a good job holding the night together well. He will probably be invited to host again if tonight’s performance is an indicator of future potential hosting gigs for him for other ceremonies.

Poor Things ended up being a pretty rich winner of Oscar gold tonight even if Oppenheimer was ultimately the undisputed champ. What were your favorite moments tonight?
