With his extensive experience in several roles in the Star Trek TV franchises, it is fair to say Gary Graham is a fine choice for Recollection. He is arguably best known for his iconic appearance as Detective Matthew Sikes in the Alien Nation television series and the five subsequent TV movies of that title.

This is not to say he hasn’t shone in other genres as well, both television and film. Thus far he has portrayed characters in two dozen films for television. In addition, he appeared as regulars in the superhero series M.A.N.T.I.S., JAG, and as ‘The Tuxedo Guy’ in Jace Hall’s internet gaming show. He launched his film career in 1979 in the thriller Hardcore, followed by the romance drama in the sporting world, All the Right Moves. Later he worked with the maverick team of director Stuart Gordon and producer Robert Band, Robot Jox. In the acclaimed 2010 TV film, Amish Grace, Graham shouldered the complex portrayal of Henry Taskey, whose son-in-law Charlie Roberts’ unresolved grief drove him to take the lives of Amish schoolgirls before taking his own.

This is director Caden Butera’s second feature film. While his first was a comedy, Caden evidently has a particular knack for action sci-fi, as evidenced by the reels on the website of his production company, Paradox Studios.

There is no logline or synopsis available for Recollection, but there is one hint at the plot on social media which involves, to paraphrase, ‘cleansing traumatic memories permanently.’ While this phrase recalls The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the still photos suggest either prison or dystopia. That being said, in terms of its genre the plot might be best represented by the short films available for screening on the Paradox website. In those terms, the closest among these seems to be Recursion, which Caden wrote and edited as well as directed. In spite of being somewhat derivative, this film manages to pack quite a punch for its 10-minute run time. If he brings the same expertise to bear on Recollection, it should result in a very robust addition to his canon.

Of note, Caden co-authored the script for Recollection along with (presumably) his brother, Rylan, as he had with Caden’s comedy feature, Swap Me, Baby, in addition to composing the soundtrack. Rylan also wrote both script and soundtrack for the horror comedy hybrid, Misdirection.

Recollection points to a Butera family venture with Jackie and Mark Butera lending their expertise as producers. It is currently in post-production with a tentative release date given for May 1, 2023.
