Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Will Be Appearing in Upcoming Crime Drama

Cinematic dream team, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are set to star in a thriller called RIP which is to be directed by Joe Carnahan.

A new film starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck called RIP will be going into production with shooting slated to begin this fall. Veteran action film director, Joe Carnahan, is attached to direct the project which will be produced under the banner, Artists Equity, a company which was founded by Damon and Affleck. This film project is huge news for fans who have followed Damon and Affleck since their good ol’ days when they wrote the 1997 Oscar-winning masterpiece, Good Will Hunting, together.

While Affleck has been busy working on the highly anticipated sequel to The Accountant, another crime project he and Damon were attached to called Animals has been delayed due to scheduling conflicts. Affleck and Damon had some screen time together in 2023’s wonderful, Air, which told the story of how the Nike Air Jordan sneaker came to be. That film may have been snubbed at the Oscars but that fact hasn’t gotten Damon and Affleck down. They’re quickly moving forward with new projects like the upcoming RIP.

Director Carnahan may be the perfect filmmaker to helm RIP given his previous work which includes action extravaganzas like Smokin’ Aces, Narc and Boss Level. The plot of RIP is currently top secret although with actors slash one-time scribes Damon and Affleck attached, one can expect it will be of the highest possible quality. Affleck has done a crime picture or two with his best being 2010’s The Town. Meanwhile, Damon’s most notable crime film so far could be Marty Scorsese’s Academy Award winner, The Departed, from 2006.

The Last Duel also paired stars/frequent collaborators, Damon and Affleck but that film bombed at the box-office despite its lofty ambitions. Next up for Damon’s fans is to watch him in The Instigators which is coming out in theaters on August 2nd before coming to streaming on August 9th. Damon will be appearing with Ben Affleck’s brother, Casey, in that movie which is yet another crime thriller.

After that, keep your eyes peeled for the sequel to 2016’s box-office hit, The Accountant, which earned an amazing $155 million worldwide thanks, in part, to its unanimous audience approval. That 2016 picture scored an “A” CinemaScore” just like Good Will Hunting did almost 20 years before it. Damon and Affleck usually excel at making crowd-pleasers whether on their own or together. The Last Duel was the rare exception as it only earned a “B+” CinemaScore mark.

RIP promises to be one of the more high-profile releases of Damon and Affleck’s recent career. With the always reliable production company, Artists Equity, backing it up, RIP seems destined to find an appreciative audience whether it is released in theaters or goes straight to streaming. Hopes are probably for the former.
