Ben Affleck to Produce High Quality and Mainstream Movies

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon‘s new movie studio, Artists Equity, has come up with a plan to make both artful and popular mainstream movies.

Don’t ask Ben Affleck what he thinks of Netflix’s most popular films. He’s setting out to do something completely different than the streamer alongside longtime collaborator Matt Damon. Through their new film company, Artists Equity, the pair is hoping to produce some of the most quality filled and popular pictures possible.

The duo who won the Oscar for writing Good Will Hunting has a movie coming out that should be appropriate for at least one of the two proposed sets of pictures which Artists Equity plans to make. Affleck will be behind the camera while Damon will be in front of it. This movie will revolve around the evolution of the immensely popular Air Jordan brand. The new studio has partnered with Amazon Studios among other companies for this one. This newly conceived studio will start their yearly slate off with three movies and increase to hopefully five shortly thereafter.

Affleck focuses on the theme of quality in regard to what he’s been saying about Artists Equity. Affleck wants to “up” the game of Hollywood a bit by giving the audience smarter and more intelligent entertainment that will make these audiences invested in the material presented to them. Affleck doesn’t want to produce films that feel as if they come off an assembly line. He wants to make more thoughtful entertainment and it is likely his partner here, Damon, wants the same for the studio. Affleck wants to make movies that “people remember 20 years later.”

Well, there’s no doubt people still remember Damon and Affleck’s heartfelt drama, Good Will Hunting, which stunned the movie industry back in 1997 when it got numerous accolades and won the Academy Award not only for its writing but for one of its co-stars, the incomparable Robin Williams. Many had thought Burt Reynolds had that Supporting Actor Oscar in his bag for Boogie Nights, but Williams actually won, and Damon and Affleck were the driving force behind Williams’ surprise victory.

Whatever Ben Affleck and Matt Damon think about the way Netflix produces movies is irrelevant because they’re about to embark on an inspirational quest to redefine the way we perceive films in the world today. Can we start seeing these films more for intelligent scripts or thought-provoking themes rather than simply for star power or big action sequences? Affleck seemingly doesn’t think plain genre movies are the only way to go. Let’s see how these stars redefine cinematic entertainment when Artists Equity’s first movie is unleashed to the world.
