ROAD HOUSE 2: Director Guy Ritchie Respectfully Bows Out of Helming Upcoming Action Sequel

Guy Ritchie No Longer Attached to Road House Sequel
Filmmaker Guy Ritchie has respectfully distanced himself from the job of directing the upcoming Road House sequel for Amazon MGM.
Jake Gyllenhaal will be returning to the screen in Road House 2, but Guy Ritchie won’t be directing it as was previously reported. Though no distinct reason was given for Ritchie’s departure from the forthcoming project, the search has started once again for someone to helm the newest action/adventure yarn featuring Gyllenhaal. Furthermore, it has not been confirmed as to whether or not Dave Bautista will be a part of the sequel either since his name is not on the cast list for the project on IMDb.
Although Ritchie’s departure from the series is certainly a bummer, the upcoming film is still expected to go in front of cameras this fall. That means it’s only a matter of time before the studio finds a replacement for Ritchie. Doug Liman directed the first film, but made a fuss when it wasn’t released in theaters before it went to streaming. The decision to send it straight to streaming nevertheless yielded excellent viewership for Amazon MGM’s first Road House movie.
Guy Ritchie’s recent projects have been hit or miss lately and although he directed 2019’s blockbuster live-action Aladdin film, that remake scored tepid reviews at best from most critics. Ritchie previously worked with Gyllenhaal on one of the director’s best reviewed recent films, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, and it is unfortunate the two stars won’t be reunited for the new Road House sequel. Ritchie is in need of a good project to solidify his name again as the best in the action film world, and since it won’t be Road House 2 he directs next, curiosity has arisen as to what his next really big action film project will be. There is a project in development with Ritchie attached to it on IMDb, Aladdin 2, which suggests he may be working on a sequel to his box-office hit from 2019.
There are several possible reasons Ritchie bailed which range from pay disputes to the possibility of Ritchie not wanting to direct a sequel to a movie he didn’t direct, but the real reason for the director abandoning the project is, at this point, something of a total mystery. Road House 2 has some pretty big shoes to fill if it is going to earn the tremendous viewership the first picture (which was a remake of a 1989 movie) did.
At this point, it would be a good guess to say that the studio will replace Ritchie rather quickly in order to get rehearsals ready for the shoot which is expected to happen in the fall. As of now, Gyllenhaal is the only star definitively attached to the project, according to the cast list on IMDb.
