SAW XI: Another Entry in the Popular Horror Series is Going to Release in September 2024

Saw XI on its Way to Theaters Next Fall

An eleventh Saw picture has been given the go-ahead by Lionsgate to be put into production and be released on September 27, 2024.

After Saw X revitalized the previously struggling Saw franchise, it is now time for another Saw picture to rush forward in order to make it out into theaters in time for next Halloween. Sometimes, absence makes the heart grow fonder, or in this case, hungrier for more Saw films. Apparently, this past fall’s Saw X proved that people missed Jigsaw and his vicious traps which made for annual Saw pictures between the years 2004 and 2010. Two other Saw vehicles were made in 2017 and 2021, but it was the excellent box-office of Saw X and its positive reviews which have proven that people are demanding more of this gory franchise; hence the formulation of Saw XI.

Saw X was a prequel which went back in time to show how John Kramer developed to become the master trap setter, Jigsaw, who was the main subject of the popular film series. Saw XI has set a date to release next September which would position it on the same weekend Saw X opened this year, except in 2024. Critics declared Saw X the best of the franchise and its reviews were above average which piqued audience curiosity to the tune of a $53 million domestic gross and over $107 million total grosses when factoring in international box-office results. It earned a “B” CinemaScore which is respectable for a horror movie and was a higher grade than the “C+” that the first 2004 movie scored.

The future is not set in stone for further Saw movies, but ideas are brewing for pictures beyond Saw XI. Needless to say, 2024’s movie could certainly revolve around Tobin Bell’s John Kramer and expand upon his story with further terrifying death traps at the character’s helm. However, there’s no guarantee of Kramer being involved quite yet. The writers could spin the material in a whole different direction, although there is a big fan base for Kramer/Jigsaw which would probably turn out in droves for Saw XI.

While the game will seemingly continue next year for the Saw franchise, it is going to be interesting to see if the upcoming movie could garner reviews as solid as those which Saw X received. Those kinds of reviews are rare for horror movies but the last Saw movie was a bigger critical success than the much anticipated recent The Exorcist reboot. The Exorcist: Believer ended its run with just $65 million domestically and that movie had a theme park haunted house attraction bringing it some extra publicity. Saw X‘s clever traps certainly “cut” into that Exorcist movie’s box-office grosses, for sure.
