SCREAM 6 (2023): Neve Campbell Felt Rejecting Her Offer To Appear in “Requel” Film Was Justified

Neve Campbell Felt Undervalued With Scream 6 Offer

Neve Campbell has confirmed the reasons she could not bring herself to appear in Scream 6 at the salary she was offered.

Several weeks back, it was reported that Neve Campbell flat out rejected an offer to star in the forthcoming Scream 6. She would have been reprising her widely regarded role as Sidney Prescott but the financial numbers proposed to her were simply not up to her expectations leaving the actress to feel undervalued as a movie star. Instead, Campbell has suggested that if she were a man with a 25 year long running franchise, the salary offered would have been significantly larger.

Campbell, who co-stars on the hit show “The Lincoln Lawyer,” brought a tremendous amount of dignity and respect to the Scream franchise and she didn’t want to work at a rate that was less than what she felt she deserved. She has also confirmed that she still loves the fans that made her the star she became playing Prescott. While Paramount went ahead and started to make the upcoming “requel” film anyway, some of Campbell’s fans are saddened at the news of her departure from the wildly popular movie series.

Neve Campbell was one of the sexiest and most sought after stars of her generation back in the 1990’s appearing in the 1998 cult classic film, Wild Things, where she played opposite Matt Dillon, Denise Richards and Kevin Bacon. Campbell’s biggest claim to fame was her role on the smash hit TV series, “Party of Five.”

Much has been done to tweak the Scream series in lieu of Campbell’s departure. Melissa Barrera, scream queen Jenna Ortega, Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere are all reprising their roles from earlier pictures in the franchise. Samara Weaving is also a name of interest in the cast list as she, herself, was a scream queen in the hit 2019 horror film, Ready or Not and Weaving is also slated to appear in the much hyped upcoming Oscar bait film, Babylon. Will these stars be enough to fill the void left by Campbell? We shall see.

Campbell only wanted a fair deal and it may not just be about the money. It may be more about how Campbell’s work was valued by the producers. In any event, Scream 6 is set to hit theaters in 2023. It’s anybody’s guess how this movie could fare without Campbell’s presence, but the show must go on. The last entry in the Scream series made nice returns at the box-office but Campbell played more of a supporting part in it. However, fans may be upset at Campbell’s departure from these movies and some may not show up in droves this time out.
