THE FAMILY PLAN: Mark Wahlberg Slated to Appear in Upcoming Apple Comedy/Adventure Film

Mark Wahlberg Close Up

Apple Original Films Will Be Releasing Mark Wahlberg Film

Mark Wahlberg will be back in an action/comedy movie titled The Family Plan for Apple Original Films and Skydance.

A dad from the suburbs takes his family and goes on the run after a secret from his past catches up to him in the upcoming movie The Family Plan which will be produced by Skydance Media for Apple Original Films. Wahlberg’s latest project has fans wondering just how entertaining this upcoming movie could actually be given the charismatic actor’s most recent performances in “audience favorite” movies like the pictures, Uncharted and Father Stu.

Don’t let their less than stellar Rotten Tomatoes scores fool you. Uncharted and Father Stu were hits for Wahlberg earlier this year despite circulating rumors that both films were misfires. On the contrary. Oscar nominated actor Wahlberg did quite well for himself in both of these aforementioned movies. The video game adaptation, Uncharted, struck a chord with action fans to the tune of $148 million at the domestic box-office. Not too shabby. Meanwhile, Father Stu underperformed at the box-office with a mere $20 million domestic take. A disaster? Not really. Father Stu actually earned a coveted “A” CinemaScore grade and is one of the best rated films by movie-goers this year. It is starting to find an audience and that film (Wahlberg’s passion project) is becoming one of the more prolific movies on pay per view streaming services these days.

Wahlberg got nominated for his Oscar when he played in 2006’s The Departed. Many expected Jack Nicholson to get an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor for that picture but Wahlberg got the nomination instead. Wahlberg, however, has had his share of films poorly received by audiences throughout his career from Boogie Nights‘ “C” CinemaScore to The Happening‘s “D” CinemaScore to The Gambler‘s “C+” CinemaScore mark. Even a collaboration between Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson got just a mediocre “C+” audience grade despite being one of the most intriguing films of the year it was released. However, lately Wahlberg’s movies have been more accessible to mainstream audiences, for sure, as evidenced by Father Stu and Uncharted.

The multi-talented Wahlberg will also co-produce The Family Plan which is penned by David Coggeshall. It is going to be directed by Simon Cellan Jones. Wahlberg and Jones recently worked together on the upcoming Arthur the King. Apple Original Films and Skydance are on a winning streak with the just released animated film Luck under their belt. With a little bit of “luck” for Wahlberg, this upcoming film of his will be a smashing success and add to his current list of audience favorites.
