THE GORGE: Sigourney Weaver Comes On Board New Apple Film

Sigourney Weaver Close Up

Sigourney Weaver Joins the Cast of The Gorge

The great actress Sigourney Weaver has come aboard the Apple/Skydance action/love story movie, The Gorge.

Director Scott Derrickson’s latest film, The Gorge, has just added the always phenomenal Sigourney Weaver to an impressive cast which includes young mega-stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy. This film is being made by Apple Original Films. Teller will also be executive producing the film, the plot of which we know very little about at the current time.

Weaver needs no introduction. She is one of the most acclaimed actresses working today and came on to the movie scene in full force with her work as Ellen Ripley in Alien back in 1979. She will soon be seen in the Paul Schrader movie, Master Gardener. Moviegoers will know her best these days for her work in the box-office smash, Avatar: The Way of Water.

The Gorge is a terrific project for Weaver to come on board to. It co-stars two of the most appealing stars of their generation, Teller and Taylor-Joy. Director Derrickson has been known for his horror films recently. Sinister and The Black Phone, both directed by Derrickson, were widely acclaimed works that scared up big box-office bucks.

Sigourney Weaver has had several Academy Award nods under her belt but some of her fans are still mad that she got snubbed for an Oscar nod for one of her best performances ever in 1997’s The Ice Storm. Even after 25 years, it’s hard to let that missing nomination for Weaver go. Weaver wowed audiences in Aliens and Working Girl but is also well known for appearing in the Ghostbusters pictures as well.

The Good House opened last fall where Weaver played opposite Kevin Kline with whom she had appeared with several times before in films like Dave and The Ice Storm. Master Gardner should be a curiosity piece for Weaver’s fans who are greatly anticipating seeing the picture directed by the always fascinating Schrader.

Miles Teller was in the Oscar-nominated movies, Whiplash and Top Gun: Maverick and has been one of the most prolific actors of his generation ever since he wowed viewers with his work in The Spectacular Now. Anya Taylor-Joy is the go-to actress for quirky characters and is currently in the widely appreciated film, The Menu which is currently streaming on HBO Max.

Apple Films recently made the terrific, Sharper, and the company is known for making excellent films that usually get wide critical acclaim. With Weaver in their latest project, the studio can be assured that they will have a quality film on their hands if Weaver’s earlier work is in any indication. Rarely has the actress done a disappointing film and she remains one of the most reliable actresses in showbiz today. Weaver took a big risk by appearing in the abortion drama Call Jane which opened last year to mixed reviews but is evidence of the actress’s fearless nature when it comes to selecting her film roles.
