THOR: RAGNAROK (2017): Official Plot Synopsis Released by Marvel

Thor Hulk Fight The Avengers

Thor: Ragnarok Official Plot Synopsis

Marvel Studios & Disney have released the official plot synopsis for the third Thor superhero film entitled Thor: Ragnarok (2017). I have to admit, it was not what I was expecting. I don’t believe anyone was fully expecting the plot of Thor: Ragnarok being what it truly is.

The official plot synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok:

In Thor: Ragnarok, “Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!”

A “gladiatorial contest” between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)? Really? Oh come on. Watching two people that are virtually invulnerable fight is almost completely pointless. One of them is a demigod and the other has skin that can’t be penetrated (amongst other abilities). What is at stake with the two of them fighting? Nothing. You know going in neither of them is going to die. Watching Batman fight four ninjas, fantastic. Watching Thor fight Hulk…again, it’s pointless.

If Thor had to fight Loki (Tom Hiddleston), that would be a far more effective matchup. They are almost evenly matched and could, potentially, kill each other.

From the end credits scenes of Doctor Strange, we know that Thor eventually finds his way to Earth and is aided by Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). The Thor: Ragnarok set images and videos show that Odin (Anthony Hopkins) shows up in the film as well.

Taika Waititi‘s Thor: Ragnarok also stars Lou Ferrigno, Jasper Bagg, Jaimie Alexander, Mark Ruffalo, Karl Urban, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Cate Blanchett, Sam Neill, Ray Stevenson, and Jeff Goldblum.

On who some of the other actors are playing in Thor: Ragnarok:

Cate Blanchett plays the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, Jeff Goldblum stars as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson will bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen, and Karl Urban will add his might to the fray as Skurge.
