VICTORIAN PSYCHO: Thomasin McKenzie Cast as a Nursemaid in Forthcoming Suspense Film
Old’s Thomasin McKenzie Cast in New Thriller
Thomasin McKenzie has joined the new suspense film titled Victorian Psycho in which the actress will play opposite Margaret Qualley.
Set in 1858, the new thriller called Victorian Psycho will feature Margaret Qualley as a governess named Winifred who comes to a home to work with the children of the household. Joining Qualley in the cast will be the always reliable Thomasin McKenzie who wowed the world with her work in the acclaimed 2019 Oscar-nominated film, Jojo Rabbit. McKenzie will serve as a nursemaid named Miss Lamb. The film will reunite Qualley with her Sanctuary director, Zachary Wigon.
McKenzie went on to play in M. Night Shyamalan’s suspense thriller, Old, and the terrific horror film, Last Night in Soho after appearing in Taika Waititi’s acclaimed gem, Jojo Rabbit. In Old, McKenzie proved to be one of the best things about the twisty movie which had a typical (for the director) surprise ending.
Now, McKenzie faces another potentially decent-sized role in Victorian Psycho. Thomasin McKenzie has constantly proved time and time again that she is a welcome addition to the cinematic talent pool with solid performances throughout her career thus far.
As McKenzie’s co-star, Qualley, enters Oscar season, Qualley is poised to receive an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress for her turn opposite Demi Moore in the well-received terrifying gem, The Substance. However, remember that Academy voters sometimes shun horror films, so nothing is in the bag for sure as of yet. Qualley excels in offbeat roles and also appeared in Academy Award winner Emma Stone’s incredibly weird indie film that was released earlier this year, Kinds of Kindness from director Yorgos Lanthimos.
Victorian Psycho is based on a forthcoming novel by Virginia Feito and the film version will be represented by Anton. McKenzie also played a part in the recent movie, Eileen, where she rivaled with Anne Hathaway’s character so seeing McKenzie rival with Qualley will take McKenzie to familiar turf for the actress. Qualley rivaled with Moore in The Substance so Qualley is also well-prepared for her role.
When McKenzie first made her way up on the cinematic independent scene, she starred in Leave No Trace which was a critical success. That film proved her versatility as an actress as McKenzie commanded the audience’s attention for virtually every moment that she appeared on-screen. Next up, you can see McKenzie playing with Bill Nighy in the Netflix film, Joy, which comes out next week. McKenzie’s turn in Last Night in Soho was incredibly well-received by critics and audiences also enjoyed her role in the film immensely. Expect similar results in terms of the reception of McKenzie’s performance when Victorian Psycho finally comes out.
