War for the Planet of the Apes Official Plot Synopsis

The official plot synopsis for War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) has been released by 20th Century Fox. The synopsis is almost completely action orientated. By the ending to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, I thought Caesar (Andy Serkis) would have taken what was left of the Apes far away from human beings, to an area unreachable by conventional human vehicles and undetectable by satellites. It seems that I was mistaken (or the tech humans have available to them is better than I assumed).

Seeing the Colonel (Woody Harrelson) going toe-to-toe with Caesar will be highly entertaining but I wish the synopsis gave us information on the Colonel’s personality and / or background. We will have to wait on that. We will also have to wait on the state of humanity during the events in War for the Planet of the Apes. Have they begun to rebuild or are they still sliding backward with regards to technology, infrastructure, government, etc.

The official plot synopsis for War for the Planet of the Apes:

“In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins this own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”

From the last film, the final battle will not just be about arms and warfare, it will be an emotional battle. There will be more at stake than mere survival. Conscience and stepping over a line that can’t be undone will be at stake as well.
