Woody Allen Set to Shoot His 51st Feature Film in Madrid

Woody Allen Set to Shoot New Movie
Woody Allen, age 90, is set to direct his latest movie, which will be set in or around Madrid and be his 51st feature film as a director.
What do we know about Woody Allen’s upcoming 51st film? Pretty much, nothing, except that it will be shooting in October and it will have Madrid somewhere in the title thanks to the grants that were obtained to make the new upcoming movie, which carries a price tag of somewhere around $14 million with much of that budget coming from public funding.
Allen was last behind the camera for Coup de Chance a few years back, and he hit it out of the park with a real winner, even though it was not an English language film. It is believed his new picture will be in the English language, although it has not been confirmed for sure, as of yet. It was once rumored that Penélope Cruz or Javier Bardem may star in the upcoming movie, but that has not been confirmed and has, in fact, almost been debunked as a theory. Still, this new picture is expected to have a solid cast on board.
Once referred to as “WASP 26 (Woody Allen Spring Project 2026),” the new film is going to be getting out of the gate and in front of the cameras very soon, in early October, as previously stated.
Woody Allen is doing something that is rare in Hollywood, which is direct films at 90-years old. Clint Eastwood did it recently with Juror #2 and made one truly great picture. If Woody hopes to go out with a bang, so does his fans, who have stood by him through his personal trials and tribulations, which won’t be mentioned here since he was never discovered to have done anything wrong by the authorities.
Perhaps, the filmmaker, Allen, is best known for his 1970’s comedies like the wonderful Diane Keaton starrer, Annie Hall, but the director has been a juggernaut over the years with hit movies like Midnight in Paris and Blue Jasmine securing him acclaim and financial success with those films typically winning acting Academy Awards or receiving screenplay Oscar nods (or wins). Allen is not perfect and had his share of financial disappointments like Wonder Wheel (which starred Kate Winslet), but all eyes are on the new project slated to begin shooting the first week of October.
It is uncertain as to whether or not Allen will appear in front of the camera again in this latest picture of his, but it’s probably safe to see that he will not. Allen is aging and may be too fragile to play a role in the new film, judging from recent interviews with the iconic filmmaker. Recent movies of Allen’s also include A Rainy Day in New York, which did pretty well overseas.
