SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 (2024): Keanu Reeves to Voice Shadow in Upcoming Sequel in Hit Movie Series

Shadow The Hedgehog

Keanu Reeves Cast as the Voice of Shadow in New Sonic Film

In a bit of fun casting news, Keanu Reeves will be assuming the voice of Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 which is due out in theaters this December.

In case Paramount wasn’t sure that their upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film had what it takes to roll with the big movies of the holiday movie season, Keanu Reeves has come on board the project as the voice of the popular character Shadow. This is a character who has a bit of a following in the video game world and will most likely bring audiences into theaters even if they didn’t show up for the first two wildly successful Sonic films.

Reeves needs no introduction. He’s always been an “excellent” actor ever since he played a goofball in the aptly titled 1989 comedy, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Reeves also had a juicy part in the comedy/drama, Parenthood, which starred Steve Martin and also came out in 1989. In Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break, he proved he could act in a dramatic action role and, then, in Speed all the way through to the John Wick movies, Reeves proved himself an action star to be reckoned with. Reeves has also done a fair share of romantic movies such as 1995’s A Walk in the Clouds and 2006’s The Lake House.

When Idris Elba was added to the cast of the second Sonic film as the voice of Knuckles, it resulted in terrific audience satisfaction. The box-office success of the second movie improved a bit over the first one. Admittedly, the box-office performance of the first film was cut short by the arrival of the pandemic in 2020. Now, with Reeves playing the voice of Shadow, a darker version of Sonic, the third Sonic movie is poised to be the most financially successful picture in the franchise.

Reeves will be a most “excellent” addition to the Sonic film cast’s family. Also, on a side note, the new Sonic picture features the young up-and-coming actress from the just reviewed horror film Sting, Alyla Browne. There’s a terrific ensemble assembled for the new Sonic movie. Now, all that has to happen is the movie has to be just as good, if not better, than the previous two pictures from the franchise.

It was also revealed that Jim Carrey will be back in the new Sonic picture as well. He will be re-playing his villainous part from the previous movies. With the one-two-three punch of movie stars Elba, Carrey and Reeves, this could be the biggest movie of the holiday season. It will be opening in theaters on December 20th, just in time for the Christmas/New Year’s holidays. Expect a $200 million-plus overall box-office performance for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
