A CLUELESS Follow-Up Series is in the Works as the Original is Set to Hit Theaters Again This Summer

A Clueless Sequel Series is in the Works
Peacock plans to put out a sequel to 1995’s hit movie, Clueless, as a series which will please fans of the wildly popular film.
Alicia Silverstone’s role as Cher Horowitz in Clueless was a groundbreaking one for the star. That original film was directed by Amy Heckerling and loosely based on Jane Austen’s classic book, Emma. Now, Peacock plans to continue Cher’s story as a series and Silverstone will be a major part of it as she will be reprising the role, according to Variety. Silverstone and Heckerling will be executive producers of the show.
Word had previously been out that Peacock had been working on something inspired by Clueless in the past, but that project has officially been scrapped and the new one is officially in development which is certainly of interest to the people who adored the old movie. Fans of the original film will also be delighted to know that Fathom Events plans to screen the movie in theaters on June 29th to give everyone the opportunity to see the wild comedy on the big screen.
Clueless became a TV show in the late 1990’s, and ran for three years. Rachel Blanchard had played the role Silverstone made famous in that series. This new show promises to continue Cher’s story in some ways although the exact story lines the series will follow haven’t been made clear at the present time.
Brittany Murphy, one of the most prolific actresses of the 1990’s and early 2000’s had a major role in the success of Clueless so it will be interesting to see how the producers and writers of the new upcoming Peacock show handle her death in terms of whether or not they’ll bring back her character again. “Sporadically,” choices are made that re-cast roles of deceased stars, but we don’t know right now how that will go down with this sequel series.
Silverstone portrayed Cher in a Super Bowl commercial in the past as well. Though Clueless was a big hit with young crowds in its day and people loved Silverstone’s romance with Benicio Del Toro in Excess Baggage, she also starred in the least successful Batman film, Batman & Robin, but we’ll leave that one alone.
It will be nice to see Sliverstone come back as Cher again. Silverstone also starred in a peculiar movie from a couple of years ago at Tribeca called Perpetrator. That very distinct role was an interesting way to see her make a comeback to the screen. Look for more news on the upcoming Peacock show as it develops. Go “rollin’ with the homies,” and see the original Clueless in theaters this June 29th!
