ART: Colin Farrell Among Three Oscar-Nominated Actors Appearing in Upcoming Fernando Meirelles Comedy
Art Casts Three Great Actors
Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes and Wagner Moura, Oscar-nominated actors all, will be featured in the upcoming Fernando Meirelles comedy, Art.
Art is subjective, but the cast of the new movie of the same name, Art, is, objectively, one of the best lineups of any forthcoming release on the horizon. Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes and Wagner Moura will be playing in the upcoming picture about a trio of guys who get into an argument or two about great art and decide what truly defines great artistry. Based on a French play by Yasmina Reza and set to be directed by Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardener), expect Art to yield some potential Golden Globe acting nominations, at the bare minimum, after its release.
Farrell, Fiennes and Moura are certainly three of the top names in Hollywood today, given the quality of their recent work. Whereas Farrell suffered a minor misstep with A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, that was a rare flop for the accomplished actor who always chooses challenging projects that test his abilities as a performer. The Banshees of Inisherin proved to be one of Farrell’s best roles to date, not to mention his superb work recently on HBO Max’s The Penguin.
Fiennes has been unstoppable after solidifying his brilliance with an Academy Award nod for Conclave. From roles in a 28 Years Later movie called The Bone Temple to a part in a new The Hunger Games picture called Sunrise on the Reaping, the actor has thrived dramatically throughout his career ever since Schindler’s List. Art will give the actor a chance to let his comic talents shine on-screen opposite two great actors.
Wagner Moura needs no introduction. His performance in last year’s The Secret Agent was so intense, it was not easy to erase from one’s memory after witnessing the dramatic tension found in that highly acclaimed picture which made waves at festivals such as Cannes and the New York Film Festival.
The only question that arises when considering how good Art could be is which of these three actors would the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominate if all three of them are vying for votes through their sure-to-be hysterical roles in the film. Under Fernando Meirelles (who worked with Fiennes on The Constant Gardener)’s guidance, it’s anyone’s guess who will secure the most acclaim for their role in Art. The film’s director has also worked with Farrell and Moura before as well, just for the record.
A Broadway version of Art featured Bobby Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris. This new cast is a bit more polished and distinguished than those three, nevertheless excellent, stars. Expect Art to be one of the most objectively funny films of the year it ends up being released in.
