THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING (2026): Ralph Fiennes Cast as the Villainous President Snow in Forthcoming Film

Ralph Fiennes To Co-Star in New Hunger Games Prequel

Ralph Fiennes is slated to have a pivotal supporting role in the upcoming prequel from Lionsgate, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Fresh off an Oscar nomination for the critical hit, Conclave, Ralph Fiennes isn’t resting on his laurels anytime soon. He will be appearing in the villainous role of President Snow in the forthcoming picture based on Suzanne Collins’ hit book, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Donald Sutherland previously portrayed Snow in most of the other The Hunger Games movies and leaves some pretty big shoes that the great Fiennes will undoubtedly be able to fill.

Supposedly set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) came into the plot, the new The Hunger Games film will focus on Panem and the 50th “Hunger Games.” Joseph Zada is the star of the movie and will play Haymitch Abernathy, the central character in the picture. There are many great recent cast additions to this project besides Fiennes. Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lily Taylor and Ben Wang round out the key members of the cast so far.

Fiennes needs no proper introduction. He was in Steven Spielberg’s Holocaust masterpiece, Schindler’s List, Kathryn Bigelow’s science fiction gem, Strange Days, and worked for filmmaking genius, Wes Anderson, not to mention his biggest claim to fame: His role in the 1996 Oscar-winner, The English Patient. Fiennes also played with Academy Award winner, Jessica Chastain, in the more recent 2021 gem, The Forgiven. With his Oscar-nominated role in Best Picture nominee, Conclave, Fiennes proved he still has what it takes to command attention in a principal role. He also appeared in The Return last year in addition to his work in Conclave. He is going to be appearing in this summer’s creepy and much anticipated, 28 Years Later, as well.

Franchise veteran Francis Lawrence is helming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping which is based on a book which has sold quite a substantial number of copies as per the norm for the books on which these films are based. Fiennes is likely to at least match the quality of work that Donald Sutherland did in the earlier The Hunger Games movies and Fiennes should certainly do the role proud.

This upcoming film project will be released on November 20, 2026, a date on which it should prove to be quite profitable and serve as a tentpole movie for the struggling studio, Lionsgate, which has had more than a fair share of box-office bombs lately such as Shadow Force and The Surfer, the latest Nicolas Cage financial disappointment. With a box-office juggernaut like the new The Hunger Games soon to be under his belt, the only question is what great role the incomparable Ralph Fiennes will take on next.
