Al Pacino Set to Return in Upcoming Indie Film

Oscar winner Al Pacino is slated to come back to the screen with his role in the forthcoming independent movie, Billy Knight.

Al Pacino will be back on the screen in an indie drama titled Billy Knight. We last saw the Oscar-winning actor in House of Gucci this past Thanksgiving, and now, the actor has taken on a role in a movie which may be a bit more inspirational than his last picture. It’s called Billy Knight and also stars up-and-comers Charlie Heaton and Diana Silvers.

This new picture will begin shooting in L.A. this week and it is being directed by newcomer Alec Griffen Roth. It marks a departure for Pacino from his star-studded fare such as House of Gucci and Martin Scorsese’s 2019 drama, The Irishman.

In the new movie, Heaton and Silvers play graduate school film students who go on a quest to find “Billy Knight.” Heaton’s character’s dad has passed away and the father always wanted to be a screenwriter. This aforementioned character, “Billy Knight” holds the key to the graduate students discovering more about Heaton’s character Alex’s dad and, possibly, about the magic of Hollywood and filmmaking.

Pacino won his Academy Award in 1992’s terrific comedy/drama Scent of a Woman which also starred Chris O’Donnell. The speech that Pacino’s character gave towards the end of that Oscar-nominated masterpiece has proven to be one of the most influential speeches of all-time and it inspired applause from crowds when the movie originally played on movie screens during its original release.

Heaton is known for “Stranger Things” while Silvers had a decent part in Olivia Wilde’s fine teenage comedy, Booksmart. These are two fine young performers who will be joining screen veteran Pacino in a tale of dreams and aspirations that sounds like it cannot miss.

Al Pacino is no stranger to making smaller films as well as the big budget studio tentpoles for which he is know best. In 2015, Pacino made the terrific underseen drama Danny Collins in which the actor played a more reserved role than the ones he usually plays in a truly moving story about fame, family and coping with the past. Annette Bening and Jennifer Garner co-starred in the story which revolved around an old letter written by John Lennon. It seems like Billy Knight could be on the same emotional level as this 2015 picture.

While the legendary Pacino has always been a performer with a larger-than-life screen presence, you can expect Billy Knight to most likely be an intimate look at the way art imitates and influences life.
