BOURNE 5 (2016): Matt Damon Reveals Plot Details, Influences, & Locations

Matt Damon Jason Bourne

Plot Details revealed by Matt Damon about The Bourne Identity 5. Production on the fifth James Bourne film is set to begin next week. With it comes interest and excitement about what this new film may entail for Jason Bourne and the series in general. Matt Damon recently sat down in an interview and gave as many details as he could about Jason Bourne’s next appearance on the big screen. One major detail is that Edward Snowden, or rather the era of government-sponsored information gathering that he exposed influenced the film. When Edward Snowden broke all over the world, it was the impetuous for story ideas for the new Bourne film for director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon.

Matt Damon looks at the Bourne films that came out previously “as really about the Bush presidency, and so we kind of had to wait for the world to change.”

The new film will be set in a world post-Edward Snowden and thus, I assume, will deal with previously classified material in the Jason Bourne world.

Matt Damon on the subject:

Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world.

Matt Damon went on to hint that:

the new film’s exploration of national security and politics in the 21st century would be reflected in the radically different locations that will bookend the film’s story…”We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy…And the movie ends in Las Vegas”

Symbolism in film or the locations that a film is produced in are nothing new. If handled correctly, it usually makes the film better as it adds a new layer of depth to the proceedings. With the fore-thought that is evident going into Bourne 5, fans of the series may have on their hands one of the most substantive Bourne films to date.

Joining Matt Damon in The Bourne Identity 5 will be Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, and possibly Viggo Mortensen.
