Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

The home releases of Confess Fletch, The Maltese Falcon, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves are the most noteworthy releases (and pre-orders) on home video and streaming services this week.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and had this to say about the film:

It’s hard to know why it took so long for a good Dungeons & Dragons movie to be made. This is a worthwhile film despite any minor criticisms. The interaction between cast members is memorable and there’s a lot of fun to be had for people who like their movies full of action and the plot has a few wild cards up its sleeve despite its overall predictability.

On Home Video

“Home video is recorded media sold or rented for home viewing. The term originates from the VHS and Betamax era, when the predominant medium was videotapes, but has carried over to optical disc formats such as DVD, Blu-ray and streaming media. In a different usage, “home video” refers to amateur video recordings, also known as home movies.

The home-video business distributes films, television series, telefilms and other audiovisual media in the form of videos in various formats to the public. These are either bought or rented, and then watched privately in purchasers’ homes. Most theatrically released films are now…released on digital media, both optical and download-based, replacing the largely obsolete [hard copy] medium…when streaming media became mainstream among its audiences, since most of them have Internet access.”
