Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

The home releases of Evil Dead Rise, Big George Foreman, Sleepy Hollow, Smile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Princess Bride, and Asteroid City are the most noteworthy releases (and pre-orders) on home video and streaming services this week.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Evil Dead Rise and had this to say about the film:

One must keep in mind that this film is strictly for hardcore horror fans. It’s unimaginable given the graphic nature of the film that someone who likes romantic comedies would find this film appealing. Evil Dead Rise has a very specific audience who will admire the film.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Smile and had this to say about the film:

The movie could have been cheesy in another director’s hands, but this movie becomes absolutely terrifying to behold the more it goes on. Finn definitely delivers enough of the scary movie goods to ensure that Smile will be a crowd pleaser for fans of movies that could inspire nightmares for weeks or longer.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and had this to say about the film:

James Gunn’s latest sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, runs on way past its welcome but keeps the spirit of the first two films in the franchise alive and well throughout. This new picture is essentially about how the raccoon, Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper), came to be and the movie examines his current dilemmas which challenge the heroes known as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Asteroid City and had this to say about the film:

Asteroid City will have audiences tapping their toes during the music in the end credits which occurs after some themes happen that will hit audiences hard towards the end. This movie is all in fun but it also makes one think about existentialism in creative and powerful ways. It’s one of the year’s best films and one of Anderson’s best pictures to date.
